Yes..Apple should have put this in the box. However that dosen't change the fact that the item works. It charges all ipods. It will charge first generation shuffles with out a cord. All other ipods need some sort of cord to connect to this USB adapter. Don't put your high priced ipod at risk. There is plenty of usb chargers out there and you could find a bunch for .99 on ebay right now but do you want to take a chance that number one it may not work and number two it may damage your ipod. Grit your teeth, do your home work and get an apple adapter. It is worth it in the long run.Customer Review: Charges my Nano Just Fine!

I use this to charge my Apple Nano Ipod.
There's no problems using it.
The nano seems to charge quickly using this adapter!
There's nothing else to buy, just plug in the usb 2 cable that comes with the nano into this and the other end of the cable into the nano, and then the adapter into your electrical outlet.
I think it is a shame the Nano does not come with this included!
Anyway, this seems to be a very good charging adapter. It's just way too pricey -- even for the high-quality construction of it.

I just purchased a 30g video iPod and absolutely love it. Previously I had a Dell DJ and, though it pulled its own weight, the iPod is much better. However, I think it's a shame that this power adaptor is not included in the price. It's no problem to charge via my laptop, but what if my laptop is not around? Sometimes, when travelling, conditions will not permit me to bring my laptop, making an AC adaptor necessary. I think what Apple ought to do if they aren't going to include it with the iPod is give a certificate for free music on iTunes if you purchase the adaptor.Customer Review: Erased my iPod mini tunes!

We travel alot, so this seemed like a good purchase idea. We charged our iPod mini's and that was easy enough, but then we realized it erased our music and audiobooks. We tried to reconnect at home on our computers, and the library would no longer export to the minis! It's bad enough the music and all was erased while we were on the road, but then not to be able to put it back on is adding insult to injury. We use Windows Home XP, maybe there's an issue there, but in any case, it's a major hassle and not worth the purchase price. We're sending it back.Customer Review: Should have came with the iPod

If you have to chose between the adapter and the dock buy the adapter. I think it's the better investment. With the adapter you could charge the iPod anywhere as long as there is an outlet. Also, from the reviews I've read on the Apple website it seems that when your battery is completly dead it won't charge on your computer.
The only problem I have with the adapter is the fact that an adapter should come with the iPod. It shouldn't be sold seperatly. Name one electronic device that doesn't have the adapter with it?
