When I bought my 3G 20GB iPod, this part was included. Fortunately when I sold the iPod, I forgot to include it, because we are getting a Video today, and now I learn this item is not included. Way to go Apple...I believe it is called fleecing your customers. At least there is an alternative way to charge these...
Very useful item, I agree, as much as I hate paying more, I also hate burning out a high dollar piece of electronics (iPod/Cell Phone/PDA/Laptop) because some company had monkeys putting them together in a remote jungle in Indonesia or something.
I have had too many friends lose cells in particular because of the $5 charger they found online or at the flea market.

The Apple iPod Power Adapter makes it much easier to recharge your iPod. I have an iPod Shuffle and I just connect it to my computer to update songs using iTunes. I connect it to the Apple iPod Power Adapter overnight to charge it.
I have a notebook computer, which 'goes to sleep' when I'm not at the computer. This makes it hard to recharge my iPod because when my computer 'goes to sleep' it stops charging my iPod. Since it takes about four hours to fully charge my Shuffle and since I'm not usually on my computer for four hours straight, I need the Apple iPod Power Adapter to charge my iPod away from my computer.

I find myself traveling a lot, and I hated killing my ipod shuffle's battery while doing so and ending up in silence for the last leg of my trips. I bought this and it has turned out to be a wonderful investment. I highly recommend buying this if you travel. My only fear is that its easy to forget this little thing; so maybe consider putting some bright colored duct tape on it so it will stand out in the hotel room. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I just want to say once more that this is ideal for travel. The prongs (for the electrical socket) fold into the device so it fits nicely in a purse, large jacket pocket, or suitcase.Customer Review: Good deal, even if it should come with the iPod

I was a bit annoyed when I opened up my brand new iPod to discover that I had no way of charging it if I was away from my computer. I had read previous posts regarding this fact and heard that a charger USED to be included with the iPod. Oh well.
Despite that, I was willing to pay the extra money for the convenience of being able to charge my iPod anywhere. It works with the USB cable the iPod comes with. You just plug the cable into the iPod and then plug the USB side into the USB port on the adapter. I would also suggest getting the car charger as well, if you frequently use your iPod in the car.

IPod Owners: Once you realize that the battery life of an iPod is between 8 and 12 hours and you are no where near your PC, you are going to want this, trust me. This is a convient way for one to charge their iPod using just their USB cable and the adapter. It charges just as quickly as your computer and get this...if you have your songs on shuffle, by charging it from the adapter, it won't start the songs over. It picks up right where shuffle left off. That is its best feature by far! I can say nothing but positive things about this adapter. Its worth every penny. Pick yours up today!
