Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G (Old Version)

Customer Review: Good motivator
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this for a few months now and I really like it.
Pros:
1. It's easy to set up and use. I calibrated it once with a .5 mile run and again with a .5 mile walk and it's been extremely accurate.
2. I didn't have to purchase special Nike shoes to use it. I bought a product from SwitchEasy that allows me to attach it to the laces and it works just fine.
3. I used to map out prospective runs so I could make sure I was doing the right mileage and now I can just go and it tells me exactly how far I've gone.
4. NikePlus.com tracking helps motivate you. You can see your progress as you get faster and your endurance increases. It's a great tool of encouragement.

Cons:
1. I've had 1 experience with being unable to send data to NikePlus.com so I lost my run. It doesn't allow you to resend a run. That's stupid.

Customer Review: Great product, not much room for improvement
Summary: 4 Stars

Since I had a nano and used it mainly for running, buying this product was a no-brainer. But, I didn't want to buy nike shoes, so I waited a few days to see how others afixed the transmitter to their non-nike shoes.

I tucked the transmitter under my laces with some velcro, went for my first run, and was amazed how flawlessly it all worked. The receiver picked up the signal quickly, worked without any interuption, and a friendly voice reminds you of your progress as you run. Great motivational tool.

Only issue I had during the run was that the receiver added a little sharp humped edge to my ipod, which normally I can tuck in my waistband without issue. That setup is now uncomfortable, so I think I'll be getting an armband.

Didn't give it a 5 because technically, it's only supposed to work with Nike+ shoes.

Customer Review: Fun to use...motivational....nike+ shoes not necessary
Summary: 4 Stars

At age 52, overweight with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol, I decided to save my life and buy new nano and nike+ unit here.

The unit is a joy to use. Autosync-ing your runs to the nike+ website couldn't be easier. Note I have dial-up only connection (<32kbps). Watching your run data collect on the nice nike+ graphical interface is great fun!

As stated by several here, nike+ shoes are not necessary. I put my shoe unit in an unused luggage tag and stuffed between my New Balance tongue and laces.

Minor complaint: During workout, I can't fast-forward/reverse within songs that are playing (a minor complaint when one considers I am now running 2 miles daily!)

Try the "PODRUNNER" podcast at iTunes to find free and extended workout mixes tailored to your desired beats-per-minute (BPM).

Customer Review: Good product, poor website
Summary: 3 Stars

The hardware and software both seem to work pretty well and consistently, but the website where the workout info is downloaded and archived rarely works smoothly. For example, sometimes you can click on a tab to change the way the information is displayed and just a blank screen comes. Not infrequently when you go to the website from iTunes you still have to sign in again, but not always. Fortunately the workout history is also recorded on the Nano itself, but there's more detail on the website and you can see everything all at once on the website too, whereas on the iPod, it's just one workout at a time, as far as I can tell. Bottom line: good product and great idea, but there are plenty of kinks in the website. Fortunately, those kinds of things can always be improved in the future and hopefully Nike's people are trying to do that now.

Customer Review: Something you may not like about this product
Summary: 3 Stars

This product is generally well designed but one thing that prevents me from enjoying it is when I plug it in, the ipod become too long to hold in hand. The original ipod nano has just the right length to hold comfortably between my thumb and little finger. By holding ipod this way you worry less about it slip through your hand. However, when the NIKE+IPOD receiver is attached, it can no longer be held in this way, and you will need to buy an arm band etc.
Another thing I don't like about this product is the NIKE+ website. It could have been so much more fun if they put functionality before how cool it looks. The website is entirely in flash, and it takes 100% CPU when you use it. A lot of time you won't be able to do what you want, for example look at other people's run profile (speed vs. time)
