Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G (Old Version)Customer Review: Outstanding! Summary: 5 Stars
You will love this toy! And yes, that is what it is! It is an electronic gadget that helps you stay on track and stay focused on your walking/running routine. I have been orking out at the gym for about 2 years now. I go almost every day. I enjoy it. Really...I do!
But getting on a treadmill and walking/running was not my thing. It seemed...well...boring.
So my wife gets me this. I hook it up (very easy) drop the sensor into the little pouch (sorry Nike but I don't do well in your shoes) and away I go.
Now...I run on my own! Every day! I run before work in the morning and go to the gym in the evenings with the wife. It motivates you to do a little more just because you can track your runs so much better than trying to do it on your own. It is easy to use, easy tp install, and somehow...takes a guy that never has had much interest in running and makes him want to go do a daily run, just so I can look at it on the computer and see if I was better than yesterday! Silly...but it is a fantastic motivational tool that works!
Buy one if you are thinking about your own health and fitness and you will watch your progress every day! It's a good thing to get addicted to!
Customer Review: Love it. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item with a little hesitation. I'm from the computer generation, but I was skeptical if this device A) worked accurately and was able to track your runs, B) was resiliant to water, abuse, etc.
Well, it works very accurately for me, even without calibration and I have used it in the rain with no problems whatsoever.
Very easy setup of slipping it in to my Nike+ Air Max, and turning it on. There was hardly any setup besides going through the menu options under the Ipod's "Nike+" option, which was simple.
Cons: The nike+ website (although thorough enough) could have some more features like actually providing a search feature for people, but that is personal preference I suppose.
The pause feature needs a little upgrading to be more compatible with longer pauses.
Overall, this is a great motivational tool for me, as I prefer to lift rather than run. I definitely would not call myself a hard-core runner, but this device is worth every penny in just 5 workouts. I already feel like the money was well-spent, even if I never use it again.
Customer Review: Made me husband of the year! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my wife with an Ipod, the Nike arm band and a pair of Shox Navina+ running shoes. My wife is an avid runner and she's been looking for something to motivate her since she doesn't have a running partner. (I only run when chased) Surprisingly she had never heard of this system before and when I presented it to her she looked at it, and me, like I was insane. After some reading (primarily the comments posted here) she set it up, and was off for a test run. Over 1 hour later, and 8.47 miles, she returned as if she had just won the lottery. SHE LOVES IT. She set up her account online to upload her data and she was setting goals and getting excited about the whole deal. She says it worked flawlessly and was something she would use everyday. I spent $29 each for the kit and the arm band at Target. The shoes were a bit of a hunt but I found a pair for $99 at Champs.
It's the best gift I ever gave to my wife (and myself). When she's happy I'm happy (wink) and I no longer have to pretend that I'm going to turn off the football game and go running with her "someday."
Customer Review: Great innovate product by Nike & Apple! Summary: 5 Stars
I've taken the Nike+ system for (4) runs now totaling about 15 miles... and I must say that I'm impressed for $29.00 (you can buy direct from Apple or Nike for this price and have free shipping). The unit is small, concise, and easy to use... it is true that you need to see the screen which can be a little complicated while running, but overall a great product. Getting it calibrated exactly "on the money" seems to be a little challenging but the farthest I've ever been off was 1/10th on a 5mi. run. The alternative to the Nike armband and Nike+ shoes is the Marware Sportsuit Relay (I bought off Amazon for $29.99) this armband is made to accomodate the Nike+ system and has a clear screen with wheel access and can be worn on the wrist for easier visibility... the armband also comes with a velcro shoe pouch to attach the electronic pedometer shoe sensor to your laces so you don't need to buy the $100 Nike shoes. Overall great product... would definitely recommend for runners... the "Power Song" feature is also great for motivation during mid-run.
Customer Review: Worth Every Penny Summary: 5 Stars
By way of introduction,I am a casual fitness runner working towards a half-marathon and I loved this product from the get-go. Some of the reviewers have made some good points regarding the Nike+ but I believe that for $29 it's a great deal. The user interface is very simple, the system logged onto to Nike+.com seamlessly (OS X with Firefox) and I love being able to see & compare my runs. I run with Mizunu shoes and currently use a baggie wound around the laces to hold the sensor, however I have ordered the Marware sleeve.
However, if you don't like to listen to music when you run (or at least wear headphones) then this is NOT a good product for you. I already had a 2nd generation iPod but got the Nano to use with the Nike+ system. It's a much lighter and sturdier package than the 2G and fits well into a running jacket pocket.
Certainly there are more accurate GPS products and simpler/cheaper Pedometers but for the enthusiast like myself the Nike+ is hard to beat.
