Customer Review: Great concept - perfect with improvements
Summary: 4 Stars

So I purchased the sensor based on the overall reviews. I have to say that despite the calibration, I haven't had any issues. Yes, after calibrating it is still off... and I haven't done yet again...and I didn't do it on a track (rather on a trail that has mile markers).. but it's like a scale that's off... as long as you use the same scale all the time you can still tell when you've lost or gained weight. Since I typically run on a marked trail, though it tells me I've done 2.25 when i've only done 2, it can still tell me if i've improved my speed (which Lance Armstrong has told me at the end!).

I think this is a good tool for beginners and people who need added motivation to stick with it. The Nike+ site is great, with trainings and challenges. For the price, I think you can't beat it...It's either this or a Garmin Forerunner with though I'd love love love...is a little out of my budget.

Customer Review: works well enough...
Summary: 4 Stars

you've read all the other reviews, so you know it helps to keep you motivated... not that it's perfectly able to tell the EXACT distance you've travelled, but you get the nice voice telling you how long you've ran...

i actually secured it under my shoelace, and also just threw it in my shoe above the toes, and it works well enough...

one thing i wld like to see is perhaps some form of indication if the thing is on or off... i'm trying to conserve the battery cos apparently you have to replace the whole thing if the battery dies, so i try to off it when i'm done... but i can never figure out if it's off or tt my ipod just can't sense the transmitter... so i'm shaking the thing like an idiot to see if there's some reaction just to test if it's on or off... a simple light like those in bluetooth headsets wld solve the problem perfectly... or just allow users to replace battery!!!

Customer Review: DOESN'T WORK unless you actually run
Summary: 1 Stars

The product description for this item should state explicitly that this tool is for RUNNING ONLY. Throughout the description, it talks about running a lot, but what it fails to tell you is that if you do any other sort of cardiovascular exercise, it will not work. I guess it needs the impact of your shoes on pavement in order to collect data. I purchased this because I wanted to track my workouts on the elliptical trainer and other machines at the gym, and when I used it during a very intense, sweat-producing, heart-pounding workout, it kindly informed me that I had gone 0.1 miles and hadn't burned any calories. Humph! I tried it a few other times thinking the first time was a fluke, but it produced the same results. I think it's misleading advertising for the manufacturer not to say that this product only works if you actually run and is completely useless otherwise.

Customer Review: LOVE IT!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have gone through many different mileage gadgets for running. This is by far the best. It doesn't involve wearing a lot of stuff, just a small sensor on your shoe and a small input into your ipod. [...] It's very conistent, reliable and accurate. Plus, it has some cool features like verbally telling you your distance/speed/time, power song when you need extra encouragement, a personal congrats from big athletic stars after a particularly good work out, and it automatically uploads your runs to nikeplus.com and nikerunning.com training logs. The only thing I'm not sure about is how long it lasts -- you can't replace the battery, so after the 1000 hour battery runs out you have to get a new one. The battery goes to sleep when the sensor isn't moving, so you can't carry your shoes with you every day (better to leave them under your desk or in your closet between runs).

Customer Review: Love this product!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got the sport kit recently, and even though I've only used it a couple of times so far, I'm thrilled with how well it works. I had first gotten a 3rd gen ipod in September (I didn't like the new 4g, so found a 3rd on clearancy), then found out about the sport kit. I went ahead and got the Nike + shoes, and I'm so glad I did! I have back problems that usually make walking any distance painful and impossible. But with these shoes, my feet and my back don't hurt any more. Even my family has noticed the difference and commented on it. For me the shoes have been well worth the price. Then I added the sport kit. Even though I'm only walking fairly short distances, it's still great to be able to go back and track my progress. Very motivating. I'm sort of dreading running into the battery issue I've been reading about, but so far I'm thrilled with this product!
