Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3GCustomer Review: Just Doesn't Do It Summary: 1 Stars
I think it really, really sucks. It doesn't calibrate properly, as calibration makes it even more inaccurate. Requires you go through menus to stop calibration(hard to do while crossing the finish line). Sometimes drops your workouts from the history. Never displays my best times for various lengths other than 5k and 1 mile; Never awards my trophies; shows I'm running much slower than I am, shows I walk much faster than I am; and the worst of all is the graphs at the nikeplus website have NOTHING to do with the run I just did. The graph is totally meaningless, a crazy green line. This is only good for counting your runs, and getting a very rough ballpark estimate of distance while recording the date.
For my best mile time, it shows a time I have never achieved in my life, so I don't have a good estimate to work from. That's it. The rest is completely unreliable. Not ready for prime time. I'm definitely going back to New Balance shoes.
All you can hope for is the error in walking speed is offset by the error in your running speed, giving you a rough estimate of your workout. Totally worthless. Nike should know better than put out a silly product like this.
Customer Review: ipod nano and nike + sport kit Summary: 1 Stars
Fun piece of kit but if you are a serious runner expecting accurate results there are some major flaws in the product.
1. starting and stopping your workout is not a push one button job - you have to scroll through menu's - so if you are on the starting line looking to do your best 10km and then the gun goes off, everyone will be long gone before you get through the menu's to start your workout. Stopping too is not simple - if you are just out having fun then it is not a major issue.
2. Accuracy - though you can calibrate the sensor it is not 100% accurate - typically my wife and I have both found that if you can get around 90% to 95% you are doing well - however that is a 1km or at least 500m out every ten. So again not that useful if you want to measure your best 10km time
3. Downloading to Nike has its problems too - you just need to read the forums to see how many problems people have with their best times not being recognised, not been given their trophies, distances and times not matching up etc. etc. etc.
Bottom line - fun for keeping a more or less record of what you have done - useless as an accurate log of your times and distances
Customer Review: Works great, but...(i've owned two of this) Summary: 2 Stars
This device is wonderful and works as advertised, but if you are going to travel just leave it at home.
The main problem with this gadget is that it is disposable. Its battery is NOT RECHARGEABLE, I've had two experiences with it:
-The first time i took it to travel with me and forgot to put it to sleep, since it is motion activated, it completely discharged during travel. HAD TO TRASH IT.
-I bought a second device, and this time, when I was going to travel, I put it to sleep as the manual suggested. I took it with me on my travel and when I was going to run in my destination, my surprise was that I COULD NEVER BRING IT OUT OF THE SLEEP MODE. Since it desn't have any light, or indicator you cant really know for sure whether the device is On or Off, in my case I was not able to bring it back to life. This happened twice, since I bought one for my wife also (actually I've owned three of this).
I want another one, but I am not motivated to do it until NIke make improvements on this issue.
If you are considering buying one, please dont take it with you if you are travelling.
Hope this review gets to the ears of Nike, Inc.
Customer Review: Very Accurate Readings-- A Great Motivational Tool Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have another pedometer that i paid about $20 for, and the thing was crap. It would get stuck 1/ way through my run and when id check it afterwars it would say that I ran for 5 minutes and .2 miles. It was really annoying.
So even though i red reviews about how this thing wasnt too accurate i decided to try it myself. Im glad i did! I calibrated the thing on a very nice high school track and when it cae time to test its acuracy, it was spot on. I set it do track my stats for a 2 mile run and the second that i stepped over the starting line at the end of my second lap, i heard this through my ipod: ".5 miles completed."! I was completely amazed; it doest get any more accurate than that.
i have some saucony running shoes and i put that little jelly bean pedometer in the shoe-wallet that i bought and have never had a problem with accuracy with that system.
not only does the thing work great, but it has been very motivating being able to track my accomplishments. just make sure you find some good headphones that dont slip out of your ears. i have yet to find the perfect ones.
Customer Review: i love it! Summary: 5 Stars
hmmmm.... leave it to Nike and Apple to come out with something extraordinary!
From 2006, I have, had my eyes on this. I finally got it this year. It is such a great product. This is the reason I am out there sweating away the pounds. LOL
Good:
* tiny, no clunky items
* works right out the box. No installation.
* u cant beat someone cheering you on
* tracking of runs, better than manual logging your runs.
* works great with the Marware relay kit.
>>>>>>Sportsuit Relay Case for iPod Nano 2nd Generation
* Nike+ website is so easy to use. There is also two widgets your can download and use with Yahoo widgets to track your goals.
* Just so nifty!!!
Bad
* tiny, so it is very easy to lose.
* the calibration is annoying
* concerned about the battery that is not [supposedly] replaceable.
* some of the Nike+ shoes are not that attractive. [but hey!]
