Customer Review: Mouse good, ball bad.
Summary: 2 Stars

The form factor is great. Sleek, Apple-sexy, and comfortable in the hand. The technology is great. Touch sensors on the top determine if you're single or double clicking and also allow righty and lefty people to both experience the same feel. The bluetooth responsiveness is great, showing no lag and being very responsive. However, one single aspect of this mouse keeps it from being perfect. The scroll ball.

Surely you'll read many more comments below about this, probably voicing the same frustrations I will. The ball works great... for awhile. Right about then, you'll notice trouble scrolling down. First it will be jerky, uneven scrolling and then it just won't scroll down at all. The culprit is run-of-the-mill dirt and gunk that gets inside and gums up the "down" portion of the scroll wheels. You can even feel the difference with your finger. Before, you could feel the minute little clicks of a proper scroll ball, but then it's gone and nothing will scroll.

Being a typical Apple product, there is no way to take it apart and clean this problem. There are various solutions on the internet, all involving a vigorous rub against a sticky surface, none of which have worked for me. I've had to visit an Apple Store 3 times already to get the mouse either replaced or "cleaned" by the Genius Bar. Visit four will be sometime this week as once again, I cannot scroll down.

I'm not an engineer, so I can't suggest how a different design would fix this issue. All I know is that this is the first mouse that I've had to return to the retailer FOUR times in less than two years. For that, I just cannot recommend this mouse to anyone!

Customer Review: Good mouse but annoying flaws
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this mouse to use with my new Macbook Pro. I absolutely love the bluetooth connectivity. It works every time and I have not had any of the delay issues noticed by some of the reviewers. It tracks well and is a nice size.

One thing I have a problem with is the clickability; mostly on the right click but occasionally on the left click also. The problem is with the design of the mouse.

On most mice you hold the body of the mouse and you click the left or right button and only that button moves. On this mouse, the entire body of the mouse dips and rises as you click. The mouse sits on a little platform base and the entire body of the mouse moves up and down with each click. So what's the problem with this? Well if I'm holding the mouse between my thumb and other 3 fingers and push down with my index finger or my middle finger (for right mouse click) the mouse may not depress all the way while I'm trying to hold the cursor firmly in place on the screen.

You have to develop a light touch of holding the mouse in place but allowing the entire body to depress and rise again without interfering with it. I have found that this is the problem 90% of the time when I can't get the right click to take effect. If you hold it too firmly, it doesn't travel. If you hold it too lightly, the cursor moves and I've clicked on the wrong menu choice on the screen.

Also, scroll ball gets stuck on occasion, but nothing serious yet.

So eventually, its going up for sale and I'm getting a more traditionally styled mouse but still with bluetooth connectivity.

Customer Review: Mediocre Mouse
Summary: 2 Stars

I ordered the Mighty Mouse only because my girlfriend really wanted it for the new Macbook that we bought for her birthday. I've never been a fan of Apple mice as a PC guy, and this mouse continues the trend. The installation and connection is simple and straightforward, but the actual usage of the mouse leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm a computer savvy guy and used to be a gamer, so i've used quite a lot of mice from the first Microsoft optical mice to the Logitech gaming mice so i'm used to be optical/laser type mice with my computers. The Mighty Mouse is ok in that regard, but nothing special as far as tracking goes. Honestly it feels a bit slow and imprecise to me. The ergonomics also are extremely poor, and I'm not sure with Apple continues to make such poorly shaped mice that don't fit well to your hand. The scroll ball is a nice touch, and it's nice to scroll easily in all directions. The side buttons are hard to click, and pretty much worthless to someone that's used to 5 button mice with front/back buttons.

Apple's products are usually great in design with some shortsightedness as far as functionality, but this mouse also fails in both. I give it two stars because it's a mouse, and does what you want it to do. And as far as wireless mice go, the battery life has been great and the bluetooth connection is nice as well. Just everything else function wise is mediocre and easily eclipsed by mice from Logitech or Microsoft.

Customer Review: Works very well...for a while.

I purchased my Mighty Mouse with my MacBook Pro over a year ago. The mouse worked great and didn't give me any trouble for the first several months. But one day I booted up my computer to discover that the scroll ball would no longer scroll down. I looked online and discovered that this was a common problem for the Mighty Mouse, and it could be fixed by turning the mouse upside down and running the scroll ball along a piece of paper. To my surprise, this actually worked, and the Mighty Mouse was scrolling just fine again. From that point on, however, once a week or so, the mouse would stop scrolling down again, and I'd have to repeat the scroll-fixing technique. Pretty annoying. Eventually the mouse stopped scrolling upward, and would only scroll downward, and no amount of turning it upside down and scrolling it on a piece of paper would fix it. I also tried meticulously cleaning the scroll ball with iKlear Apple Polish to no avail.

Pro's
+It's sleek and looks very good next to a MacBook or MacBook Pro.
+Completely wireless.
+Connects easily and quickly via bluetooth.
+Works perfectly until the scroll ball decides to stop working.

Con's
-Pricey at $69.00.
-Scroll ball has a tendency to stop working after several months of use, and this seems to be a common problem among many who own this product.

Customer Review: You can fix the scroll ball
Summary: 4 Stars

Do not try to open Apple mouse if you need to clean the scroll ball. Unlike other mouse it's not designed to be taken apart, but the problem with it is that it does stop working sooner than others. If you try to open it, most likely you will break plastic pieces and putting them back together will be almost impossible.
Instead, use duck tape to clean the mouse. Unroll about 3-4 inches of the tape and roll the ball over it for 15-20 min. For some reason the duck tape is the only one that really works; perhaps the sticky surface is the most stickier. Try it and good Luck

This mouse is beautifully designed and well made. It feels like a decent piece of hardware that only Apple can make. I bet, one day it will be displayed in a museum of industrial design. Unfortunately it is not as comfortable as others, but I admit that this is a personal preference and the size of your hand has a lot to do with it. It works with Windows 7 but there are some problems. The cursor is a bit erratic or not as precise like other mouse design for Windows. Also the cursor moves slower and it speed can not be adjusted beyond some point.
I played with the settings, but these problems cannot be fixed. So, although the mouse works in Windows environment it is quite inaccurate.
Apple wireless keyboard works great.
