Customer Review: Would be a great mouse, but for its poor scroll ball reliability

New, out of the box, this is a great mouse. The design is simple yet elegant: it functions very well...for a few months that is, until the scroll ball gets dirty (and it will get dirty). Once that happens, the mouse is done. The scroll sensation begins to feel rough and gravelly under your finger, and scroll sensitivity becomes intermittent and unpredictable. Apple suggests various techniques for cleaning the ball, but none of them are effective. So, if you don't mind forking over $70 for a new mouse, say, every four to six months, by all means get a Mighty Mouse. I loved this mouse out of the box, as other reviewers have mentioned. I was ready to love this mouse forever, but after about 50 days, the top scroll button went out. I loved it so much, I bought another, hoping the defect was a fluke. No, it was not. Less than two months later, the top scroll ball went out on this one too. And I am NOT hard on these things -- I do part-time accounting, for pete's sake. Now I have two beautifully-designed, rather expensive paperweights. NOT a shining light in an otherwise excellent hardware record, Apple. I am buying a different model as a replacement.Customer Review: Perfect Mouse

This is actually my first review EVER .. I read reviews before buying but have actually never written one. Well let me start by saying that I read a lot of bad and Very bad reviews about the mouse. But I still went ahead and got the product and am glad I did. it is a perfect mouse, extremely easy on fingers and palm to maneuver. Before this I was using Logitech VM revolution.
It is easily customizable, I have customized it to change application from mouse, etc. I truly believe Mighty Mouse is much better than anything I have used before and would recommend this to anyone.
Customer Review: cleaning the trackball is a nighmare

The right button is a way too unreliable - I was missing it all the time until I reassigned its functions to the center button. Now this problem is more or less solved, even though I miss the simplicity of the standard mouse.
Cleaning the trackball is a nightmare! I really wish I could just remove it and take all that dirt out of there, but it is not possible, so what I do is turning the mouse upside down and spinning the ball around a clean sheep of paper - this is a trick I found on the internet. Well, it works for few hours, then I have to do it again. Very annoying!

Performs very well, is a beautiful design- there is not much more to say that that. I did have to replace the first one as it lost connectivity, but the second one has performed with out a problem for a long time.
One problem- the notes you read in the reviews are true- it will get interference from cordless phones operating on 2.4 ghz - so if you own a cordless home phone- you will have to either keep it completely away from this and other Apple wireless devices - or get a cordless phone that operates on 5.6 ghz.
Other than that- this is great.
