My adaptor actually came with the purchase of my MacBook so I didn't have to buy this separately. Maybe that's why I like my adaptor so much more than most of the other reviewers. Mine doesn't turn hot or hasn't melted (yet?)!
It can be inserted into the MacBook either way - meaning it's never upside down. There is a magnetic pull to it so it easily inserts. The light is "red" while it's powering up your MacBook and turns green once it's done.
It also comes with this nifty hook thing where you can wrap the cord around it (similar to a vacuum cleaner how you wind up your power cord around the two hooks). So far I'm very pleased with it!

beware. this adapter looks like an apple 60w magsafe adapter, but the first clue that it may not be is the power cord, which is a flimsy little two-prong affair, not the solid three-prong cord apple supplies with its adapters. plus, the fit and finish seemed off. instead of fitting snugly into place, the removable plug slid in and out far too easily. i'm guessing it's either a fake, or it's a reject from the chinese factory sent here for resale without apple's knowledge.
bottom line: it sucks having to shell out $80 for the real thing - but in this case, it beats spending $50 on a fake.

Bought a macbook...... was disappointed when the over-hyped charger went dead in 15 mths. So i thought I just got the odd lemon. So i got this to replace it. Guess what, they are all LEMONS by design! the contacts at the Mag safe connection oxidize and wear down to nothing - literally. this one went dead in exactly 12 months and 3 weeks i.e. post warranty. So i'm not sure if i will abandon my Mac and get a PC or just buy a new charger every year....... neither options really make sense anyway. Point is this item is innately CRAPPY and is a real rip off at the end of the day.Customer Review: Item stopped working ....

I bought this power adapter as a replacement for my original one, which shorted out. Trying to save money, so i bought this $30 one instead of the $70 one at the Apple store. Unfortunately, this new one stopped working a couple of days after I received it. took it, along with my computer, to the apple store, and they tested it out. The adapter was no good. So, save your money and just go to the apple store, they'll replace it for free if your computer is still under warranty, if not, at least you'll know it will work...Customer Review: The worst Apple accessory ever...

I'm a big mac enthusiastic... but, this charger really sucks (the cord brokes on both MagSafe plug and charger itself connections)... MacBook is an amazing notebook, but replace its charger in the first 6 months sounds ridiculous... the iBook charger was much better engineered. Apple, please, assign the original team that designed iBook charger to fix this one.
My recommendation: buy the MacBook Pro 85W charger, it also works on MacBook and for some reason is better engineered.
