Customer Review: NOT WHAT IT IS
Summary: 1 Stars

Initially I was looking to just go to Bestbuy or Apple Store and just buy retail, my husband told me buy it online, so, given my macbook is not charged and off and that the charger/adapter was not working, I went through my thoroughest search on my iphone, being too small, though this item shows the same information as my charger, I bought it, the cheapest amongst the bunch, once I got it, happy happy happy, opened it, and saw the adapter itself, I was not happy about the information on it. No Apple logo, it shows as "REPLACEMENT AC ADAPTER MODEL NO. A1184". Of course, I opened the attached order page, It shows "APPLE MAGSAFE 60W POWER ADAPTER FOR MACBOOK MA538LL/B (RETAIL PACKAGING)" with comments "60W REPLACEMENT COMPATIBLE CHARGER NOT OEM FOR APPLE MACBOOK. MADE WITH HIGH QUALITY PARTS. 100% COMPATIBLE REPLACEMENT ADAPETER NOT OEM." This CHARGER does not ever CHARGE!!!

OF course I am looking for ways to return this, well, they do not have a return policy... so I will have to go to BBB and complain to them as well, also if this will not proceed, I will obviously dispute this charge. I am happy that I got my mac to life back, but this is not a desktop computer. I need a real charger, guess I say Hello to my Geniuses again and will not trust third party because it is not even close to what I was shown it is.

By the way, why does the invoice show the comments and not the item itself online? this is a ploy to get people buy your product and wish they will love it instead of returning it isn't it? If my Mac gets destroyed because of this, see you in small claims court I guess.

Customer Review: Ingenious!

- This review is for the original Apple product -

This thing is another great innovation introduced by Apple. My power adapter came with my Macbook. I was so impressed by the idea that it was one of the selling points for me to get the new Macbook. No more trip the cable and there goes your laptop to the floor. The end of the power adapter is a strong magnet; strong enough to keep it plugged-in, but easily disengage when accidentally tugged. One end of the square adapter has a neat pair of flaps that opens up like butterfly to be used as a spool for the cord when not in use. The 2-prong tip is also removable so you can use an extension cable for a much longer reach.

Cons:
- Alas, this power adapter is also one of the weakest links for the Macbooks. 2 years after, I have to wiggle the end to make the adapter work. Intermittently, my laptop turns off in the middle of whatever I am doing. I even checked that magnetic contacts were clean to make sure that that is not the reason for the the laptop misbehaving. After a trip to the Genius bar, they just have to officially announceit it; the adapter needs to go. Searching the internet, I found out that failure is not very uncommon for this particular product.
- Pricy

Customer Review: Not bad, but has a couple of 'gotchas'
Summary: 2 Stars

First of all, understand - this is NOT an exact OEM replacement for the power cord that ships with Macbook - at least not mine. Look at the picture carefully - see how the prongs that plug into the wall are directly attached to the adapter box? That part will slide off. My original power adapter had a long, thick cord that attached there instead of the prongs directly on the adapter - this means that the new one has about half the reach that the original did. If your original cord is still intact from the point where it plugs into the wall to the adapter, you can slide it off, and put in on the new adapter, and all is good. This was the case for me, as the dog chewed off the thin side of the cable. If the problem is with the thick part of the cable though, you may be able to replace that part without this. Problem #2: The magsafe connector on the one I ordered was not very hardy - within about 5 uses, the plastic cover on the plug came loose - I have to be very careful with it now, or it slides right off. I'm not unhappy with this item, it does the job, and for the price reduction, I guess you get what you paid for - just be aware, this is not as strong as your original product.

Customer Review: You won't mistake it for a Van Gogh, but it's merely imitating a Warhol.

It seems odd to give this knock-off adapter a higher rating (by a wide margin) than the genuine article from Apple (perhaps the most maligned of all Apple products--there are websites dedicated to litigating the item out of existence). Frankly, I was expecting, as has been my experience in the past, a heavy-duty, decidedly indelicate adapter that would be adequate for use in my office. But the adapter you get is the cute and handy traveling model with the fold-out prongs and the two snap-out levers for wrapping the cord around.

This copycat version won't fool Apple connoisseurs. It lacks the indented Apple logo on the sides, the alignment of the two parts is far from tight at the joint, and the prongs are just a bit too stiff.

But it performs out of the box as well as the original and at half the price. Moreover, no one will know you're not up to Apple code except the user. The only question that remains concerns durability. Given the number of these I've had to replace at higher prices, I'd be surprised to be terribly disappointed on that score.

Customer Review: poor product that needs to be re-designed
Summary: 1 Stars

I am a die-hard, rather-fight-than-switch Mac user. That said, I have been disappointed with this product and if someone else made a powercord for macbooks, I'd buy one elsewhere. The bottom line is that the junction boxes on the chords overheat. Every other mac user I know experiences this (as well as the batteries getting really hot in the laptops themselves). In this case, my junction box overheated to the extent that it literally melted the thin chord that goes from the box to the computer. Yes, melted. Which is why I needed to purchase this item. And why I was frustrated that I had to pay $80+ for a product made only by Apple that is faulty in design. And yes, the new chord gets hot, just as the old one did. It took 2 years for that one to eventually melt itself - am hoping this one will last longer. I still wouldn't switch from Mac computers, but I do wish Apple would rework these chords and then make replacements free or cheap to folks who've had melt-downs like mine.
