Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse

Customer Review: Nice design, LOOOONG battery life
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this mouse for over 6 months now and it's still running on the original batteries that Apple supplied. But your mileage may vary, depending on your usage. I have a Wacom tablet too, so my mousing is light.

As far as the design goes, it's very comfortable. I like the Ivory Soap bar look of it. The scroll nub on top is very useful for scrolling long web pages, but the pinchy buttons on the side are not so nice, due to the lack of force feedback. I've disabled those, as well as the scroll nub click. This is good for older people, like my dad, who aren't as dexterous and prevents accidental clicks. He can push down anywhere on the mouse and I'll click, instead of trying to remember right click or left click, on a more complicated mouse. (He'll click both buttons due to bad finger control).

There's also not a laser beam, like some cheaper optical mice. So, if you have kids, you don't have to worry about them blinding themselves.

It is also true that this mouse can run on 1 battery instead of 2! I wasn't aware until I read the Amazon description. I was skeptical, but I took out 1 battery and it's true.

Customer Review: Macbook (and MacBook Pro) Users
Summary: 4 Stars

If you don't have an external mouse and are considering buying one, this is the one to get, rather than one with a cord. The reason is that the USB ports on the Macbook are on the left side of the machine. Because most people put their mouse on the right side of the machine, using a corded mouse would be difficult to manage -- you would have to work around the machine to get the cord to the right side. Having the cordless setup is the ideal - it's certainly worth the extra $15.

However, one problem I've found with it (and likely applies to the corded version as well) concerns the side button. I have it setup so that when I click it, it activates the application switcher. However, the problem with the button is that it is not sensitive enough. Most of the time I find myself hitting the button numerous times to activate the application switcher. I looked for a setting to increase its sensitivity, but unfortunately there isn't one.

Overall though, it's defintely a great addition to your setup. The bluetooth is very easy to setup, and the added benefit of having the external mouse outweighs its cost.

Customer Review: Decent Mouse, Scrolling Not Quite Seamless
Summary: 4 Stars

The battery life on the Mighty Mouse is substantive. I've used the provided Energizer Lithium batteries that came with the mouse since I purchased it (approx. 2 months ago) and the "Mouse" battery meter in System Preferences remains at 5 of 5 bars.

The top three 'buttons' work well. The middle 'two' buttons are actually duplicates of a single button, and they respond only to a firm press. They're ideal for shortcut buttons. I have mine set up as a 'Lock Screen' shortcut with SteerMouse.

The one thing that seems not to be working is the vertical scrolling. The scroll wheel gets clogged easily with dust and other particulates and stops working.

The performance and responsiveness of the Bluetooth is stellar. The tracking is crisp on most any surface, and disconnects, even with heavy use, are extremely rare. What's more, Software Update can deliver firmware updates to the mouse wirelessly. That's impressive.

Also, the Mighty Mouse is the appropriate width to fit in my hand without the bulkiness of other wide mice, making it appropriate for the small pockets of a backpack.

Customer Review: Best mouse ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I wasn't sure about buying this becasue I had read several reviews saying that the buttons don't register the left/right click very well and that the scroll button breaks within days. I have had mine for over a month and I love it. The person who said they had to lift their finder to get the buttons to register must be pushing down on the mouse really hard because the buttons work just like a normal mouse only they are located in the botton instead of the top. The 360 scroll button is amazing - but again I don't mash down hard on it. If you have very large hands it might not be comfortable but I find it perfect. I turn it on before my computer and it is always synched up by the time the computer is ready. It can take a while to synch up automatically if you turn it on after the computer is already booted up, but I have found it faster and easier to simply manually make the computer synch up with it - it just takes a few seconds. This mouse is very sersatile in that the buttons are completely customizable, it can even be configured for left handed people which I thought was really cool. I would totally recommend this mouse!

Customer Review: best mouse I've ever owned
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this mouse. I recently bought my first Mac (15" MacBook Pro), though I've used them at work for over 10 years. Being left-handed and used to the PC world of 2+ button mice I immediately set up the left side for Control clicking and the right side for "left" clicking. I get only very occasional times when the mouse doesn't recognize my "right" click. I'll gladly suffer through having to rarely click it a second time for the gorgeous smoothness of this mouse. The scroll ball is amazing and much better than a wheel -- more mice should copy that design. 360 degrees of scrolling -- yes please!

The laser tracking is phenomenal. I've been able to use it anywhere. I've even used it on my dog's back as she slept beside me on the couch!

The only real issue I've had is that the MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the mouse if I turn the mouse on after the computer's already on. I have to go into Bluetooth settings and browse the device to get it to connect.

Also I wish I could get this mouse to work with my PC. Now I really hate going back to my Microsoft mouse.
