Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty MouseCustomer Review: Mighty Mouse is really the best thing out there! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know what it is about bluetooth technology but no one seems to be paying attention to it. I've had mine for over 9 months now since it came out last summer. I've had reservations because of some of the concerned feedback that I read but after having used it all this time it operates as it should. Battery life is good! A low battery level indicator comes on to let you know it cautions you well in advance. I use nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries in mine. So I've changed them roughly about 3 times since I've gotten the mouse. Tracking is a no issue. It goes left and right up and down! Its very accurate having to select a pixel is completely a non-issue so for high end graphic work, no problem. Right mouse click? Yeah, its not perfect but as far as I'm concerned its not a nuisance. I right mouse click in Safari when I want an exact meaning of a word using the dictionary, cut, copy and paste right mouse clicks can be challenging at times and then at times it works like a charm. The 2 programmable buttons on the side? I dont' use it, everyone agrees it is just too hard to press those buttons to make it worthwhile. Scrolling up and down and left and right and diagonally works like it ought to. I wouldn't have purchased this mouse without the scroll feature. My rating on the scroll feature is a 10 for smooth. What I'm having a problem with is finding an acceptable bluetooth mouse for my wife who has a Dell running Vista. With Logitech 50% likes and 50% no likes, which half do I want to be? And Targas can't maintain a rating of over 3 stars here on Amazon so that's a no go. One other reviewer said that he bought the mighty mouse for use with his Dell running Vista so we may be going that route since I'm a big fan of this mouse having used it all this while. Make the plunge, the Mighty Mouse is really the best thing out there even at its present price level.
Customer Review: Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse not so mighty Summary: 2 Stars
I regret I did not buy from Amazon--then I could have returned it. I don't know why I bought it from online from Apple . . . .
The Good:
Easy installation with Bluetooth. The scroll wheel works very well. I don't remember any difficulties keeping the scroll wheels of my three previous Apple USB mice clean.
The Bad:
Too much effort to "click." I play timed Klondike in the Solitaire for Macintosh suite. It keeps a record of high scores. The mouse slows me down noticeably. It's frustrating to get hung up on a card when you're trying to move it, clicking and clicking, with the card jiggling around and not quiteApple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse moving!
The mouse very rarely loses its Bluetooth connection, but when it does I have to find the old USB mouse to restart and reprogram Bluetooth.
I should have got a Logitech mouse at Amazon.com, like my wireless keyboard. Maybe I will "eat" the mouse and go Logitech.
I mentioned in my review of the Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse that it took too much effort to "click." I have developed wrist and finger pain when using the mouse. I've used Apple mice on three successive iMacs with no problem. The wireless mighty mouse did me in in two months! I decided to check on the guarantee in the papers that came with it. Couldn't find any. Tried searching Apple's site, couldn't find one there either. I've hooked up the old wired Apple mouse and have been trying to use it with my right hand, which is impaired from a stroke. (The lead is too short to use with my left.) Some good may come out of this. Forcing me to use my right hand to play Klondike is a kind of rehab! I would give it one star today. Later, depending on its rehab value, I might reconsider.
Customer Review: Better than Logitech V270 on Windows XP Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I use a Dell notebook with Windows XP not Mac OS. I have been using a Logitech V270, which I like, for about two years. My wife has a Macbook Pro and the Mighty Mouse, both of which I liked a lot. :) But I cannot have the Macbook Pro because of some software need. A few days ago, I found that I can connect the Mighty Mouse to my notebook (Dell Latitude D620) and have all functions the V270 has. So today I got my own Mighty Mouse.
V270 was a good mouse for its time, but the Mighty Mouse is significantly better:
1. The Mighty Mouse is much more accurate than the V270. The difference is very obvious -- with the V270 I may mis-click on right-click menu items. Sometimes I prefer to use my old Logitech wired optical mouse for its accuracy. The Mighty Mouse, however, is as accurate as a wired optical mouse if not better.
2. The Mighty Mouse is lighter than V270. The V270 is heavier without the batteries (as I feel); and it requires two AA batteries while the mighty mouse only needs one (though can use two).
I do find that Apple provides Lithium AA batteries with the Mighty Mouse. What a wise choice. I feel that a Lithium AA battery is only half the weight of an Alkaline battery.
3. I like the shape of the Mighty Mouse. It is wide and flat, while the V270 is narrower and higher. It just feels better with the Mighty Mouse's shape (but this is very personal).
I noticed that right click of the Mighty Mouse is not as decisive as the V270, which is understandable because the Mighty Mouse has no left or right click buttons. I got used to it after a while.
The left and right side buttons may work differently on Windows XP, but that I am not sure and it doesn't matter in my use.
Customer Review: The cat's meow Summary: 4 Stars
Two days after I brought home my Apple iMac Desktop with 24" Display MA456LL/A (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive) the cute little mighty mouse went dead. This was not the result of any defect in the wired mouse but rather the work of a very satisfied kitten, Sasha H. Pussycat. My first thought was that it might be covered under my warranty, but not even the nice people at Apple think that "The cat ate my mouse" fell under their very broad warranty. "You may have a defective cat," I was told, "but the mouse was not."
A year later the cat and new mouse co-exist peacefully. This is because rather than tempt Miss Pussycat with an equally attractive replacement mouse, I went wireless. Having a year of experience with the replacement mouse I have a few thoughts.
First, use Energizer AA Batteries, 1.5 volt Lithium, Pack of Twelve, and buy lots of them. Lithium batteries go dark when they are used up and you should have replacement batteries handy.
Secondly, check the settings in System Preferences. I prefer the scroll setting to be vertical, not 360 degrees. This brings up another issue. There is no effective way to clean this trackball which is a quarter the size of a pea. Scrolling is a hit or miss operation with this mouse. The Mac forums are full of complaints and remedies, some of which you should not try such as prying open the mouse.
As to the other functions, they work great. If the scrolling issue were fixed this mouse would get a five from me. Miss Pussycat doesn't like it much however.
Customer Review: much improved over the previous "wireless pro" Summary: 5 Stars
A year ago, I wrote a 3 star review for Apple's wireless pro mouse which could be summed up as "great, another 1 button mouse... *yawn*" so I felt I needed to write this review to balance everything out. :)
The wireless mighty mouse is an excellent product. Not only does it stealthily add the much needed right click, which is honestly just too handy to ignore anymore, it also adds a great scroll button which I am fast falling in love with. The scroll wheel on my other mice all seem so tedious anymore whereas before I thought they were great.
After years of trying a range of different devices, I've discovered that what I use the most are left click, right click and scroll. I don't need a thumb button, middle button, pinky button nor any of that; left, right and scroll gives me 100% of what I need. Should you need a couple more buttons, the "squeeze" buttons on the side are there. (I just don't use this functionality at all so no idea how well it works)
That it uses AA batteries is something I actually learned to appreciate with our old wireless pro mouse. (we recently bought a AA powered mouse for our winPC because of this) Every electronic gadget in our house seems to run on AA batteries. We gave in a long time ago and we bought a pile of rechargeable batteries with a good charger. Now we just keep recycling those AAs through all of our remotes, toys, cameras, mice or whatever. My wife HATES wires, you can try to explain the difference between a docking station wire and a regular mouse cord but to her they're all just wires. So, +1 to the wireless mighty mouse here as well. :-) (no worry of forgetting to dock either)
