Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty MouseCustomer Review: Good Concept, but Needs Improvement Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased the mighty mouse and gave it a try for about 5 days now. The design of the mouse is very creative, however, it could use improvement.
PROS :
1) You can't beat bluetooth, and the battery life on this mouse is excellent.
2) It looks slick! Apple has the right idea and a good concept, but it could use some major improvement.
CONS :
1) When right clicking, it tends to stick or not work at times.
2) The tracking speed will need to be set to the highest level if you are running your video in high resolution, such as 1680x1050. Even at the highest setting, I found myself constantly picking up the mouse to reposition it on the mouse pad. I have tried both standard and "special" laser mouse pads with the same results.
3) If you have large hands, hang it up. After 4-5 days of using this mouse, I gave it a chance, but tonight I ran out to storage and dug out my old logitech wireless. In my opinion, the mighty mouse is too thin, and with large hands your mousing hand tends to start cramping up frequently.
4) The side buttons take quite a bit of pressure to activate - to the point that they feel useless. The side buttons should be sensitive enough where as the user shouldn't have to consciously think about using them. As it is, having to apply the pressure typically makes you look at the mouse, then at the screen, then at the mouse to see if something happened - you feel out of control.
5) After being back on my old logitech, for the last half hour, I think I'm going to part with the might mouse. I figure I could return it to Apple, but, I'll eat the shipping costs -- thus, it will likely be sold / auctioned off and let the buyer pay the shipping.
OVERALL
The mouse looks nice and battery life is great. The mouse constantly makes you feel out of control when you are trying to work -- stiff side buttons, having to pick up and place the mouse, the right click sticking and so on. For someone with large hands, or someone that is use to having precise control over a mouse (such as working with Photoshop) I don't think you are going to be comfortable at all with the mighty mouse.
Honestly, I would recommend a good logitech or even (gulp) a microsoft mouse over this model of mighty mouse. Who knows, maybe Apple will come up with an even mighty'r mouse to address the before mentioned issues.
Customer Review: The greatest wireless mouse around! Summary: 5 Stars
I usually do not write reviews but seeing that this only had four stars I had to jump in to try to boost it up. I am an avid computer user so don't think I am just your everyday instant message who is blown away by the idea of no wires. This mouse is truly outstanding.
Range - The range of this wireless mouse is greater than you will ever need. You wont have to worry about that 3 foot requirement that most other wireless mouses stick to.
Buttons - The way it tells if I am clicking right or left even though its all one piece is awesome. Very nice touch by Apple.
Scroll Wheel - Awesome! Very easy to scroll vertically or horizontally and works as a great button for something of your choosing (I chose it to be a hotkey to my dashboard). You can also use the scroll wheel in conjunction with the command key to zoom in and out.
Side Buttons - They take some getting use to because you have probably never experienced them before but they are a great extra set of buttons. I set mine to the expose feature in Macs. Very, very convenient.
Battery - We have all been there when we are trying to replace two AA batteries in something but can only find one...with the Mighty Mouse, thats all you need! It holds two but it can run on just one! Fun little feature if you ask me.
Re-connectivity - I saw some review that says it takes 30 seconds for it to reconnect when you break the connection by taking your laptop or turn it off. This is completely not true. When turning your computer on again, just turn the mouse on with it and the mouse will be connected before the computer itself is booted up. I have a MBP 2.2Ghz 2GB RAM so my boot up is as fast as anyones but the mouse is still ready by the time the log in screen comes up. Now, when the connection is broken by moving the laptop too far away, then it will have to reconnect. I would say it takes no longer than 7 seconds.
Adjustability - You can adjust this mouse to fit any user. You can adjust how quickly the arrow tracks and how quickly it scrolls. You can also change the double click speed if you want to. You can change the function of any of the buttons. The mouse is amazing.
Remember guys, its made by Apple! You know you are getting something good.
Customer Review: Mighty Mouse - I love you Summary: 5 Stars
The BlueTooth Mighty Mouse is a WONDERFUL improvement over the original Mighty Mouse and clearly, the best bluetooth mouse available ---- a direct comparison to other mouse's available -
PROS:
1. BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL MIGHTY MOUSE --- I liked the original (wired) Mighty Mouse, but many of the buttons were difficult to use --- the scroll wheel had a tight grip and the side buttons were impossible to use --- this new Mighty Mouse has a much better scroll wheel (ball) that is a lot looser and easier to use --- in addition, the side buttons are very functional, in addition to all the other buttons
2. BUTTONS ---- I can't stand mouses like the Logitech ones that are filled with so many buttons, that you basically can't help but to press the wrong button here and there --- the Mighty Mouse has an excellent set of buttons, not too many, and not too little --- best of all, they are all laid out perfectly, with software that let's you decide which button will designate what function --- the best set of buttons and layout available on any mouse!
3. LASER TRACKING ---- one reason I often do not use bluetooth mouses is because the tracking is unstable --- the mouse can't keep in line with movements --- however, I'm very pleased with this Mighty Mouse --- the tracking really does feel like a solid wired mouse, making me believe that Apple really invested a lot of good engineering into making the tracking of this mouse excellent
CONS ---
1. SOFTWARE --- the software is easy to use and setup, however, it doesn't seem to work with OS X Panther (10.3) --- so if you are not using Tiger (10.4) then you may wanna reconsider purchasing this mouse, unless Apple gives software for 10.3, but doesn't seem so?
2. HOCKEY PUCK --- personally, I miss the hockey puck mouse, from the original iMac --- but hey - I think they're more Republicans in Massachusetts than there are hockey puck mouse lovers, within this entire world --- so I guess it's personal preference
overall --- it's a great mouse and the price is reasonable
if you are big on right clicking and scrolling, then don't hesitate to buy it
LOVE AND PEACE TO YOU ALL!!!
Customer Review: Great mouse with two flaws. Summary: 4 Stars
At first I really didn't care for this mouse, but it just takes getting used to. At first I thought the pressure detector was defective because half of my right clicks were interpreted as left clicks. Then I figured out that it works perfectly when you take your index finger off the "left button" before you right click. Annoying at first, but I quickly became used to it so that it is fine to me now. No worries about that anymore. But, there are two flaws:
1. The mouse has been designed so that the top shelf itself is just one button, hence the need for pressure sensors to detect right and middle clicks. However, this makes it rather difficult to click and drag in tight spaces when you have to lift the mouse and keep the button clicked down. If you do need to lift the mouse and keep a button clicked, you have to have your thumb on the left squeeze button and your ring or pinky finger on the right squeeze button. Then you have to click, squeeze, and lift. This is a little annoying and could have been prevented by using LESS technology (look at any cheep mouse with two dedicated click buttons).
2. The design of the mouse makes it very difficult/impossible to clean underneath the scroll button. There are MANY reports on apple's store website (in the might mouse reviews) of the scroll button going out within months. For a seventy dollar mouse, this is ridiculous. If you live in a dusty place (dorm room for example), think twice about this mouse. However, the one-year warranty should allow you to get another mouse if the scroll button does crap out.
Despite those two flaws, I really love this mouse and would buy another one if it broke down after the warranty expired. After about two hours, it felt perfectly natural in my hand. And I am glad that it is easy to turn the mouse off (simply slide a cover over the laser sensor) to conserve battery power and protect the sensor at the same time.
Customer Review: Excellent purchase and product Summary: 5 Stars
Owning a Powerbook, the wireless mouse is a great choice when you want to sit with the laptop at a distance. Rather than add to the product description, I will say the craftsmanship and design is second to none. Pairing the mouse to the laptop was seamless and very simple. It could have been done without reading the manual. (Yes, I read it first. It came with the mouse, might as well get my money's worth.)
Mouse operations are extremely smooth. It takes just a little getting used to pressing the unit itself instead of expecting a separate left and right mouse button as the majority of mice operate. Getting a popup menu is as simple as holding the Ctrl key while pressing the mouse.
The track ball moves very smoothly when tracking, and it is great when scrolling a page horizontally or vertically. Another great feature of the trackball is the ability to press the ball and execute a preset command. I set mine to Application Switcher. Works like a charm.
Some people noted the side buttons are hard to press. They are not. It depends on the position of your hand on the mouse when using it. The side buttons do not click as soon as they are touched, to keep them from being accidently activated when using the mouse. They have a bit of a 'restraint' to them, for lack of a better word or term, but they are not in any way hard to press. You are not going to 'bump' into them and perform a function you didn't want. I set mine to Expose, and they work flawlessly. Reset the position of your hand on the mouse and accuston yourself to the best hand position for you to execute the two side buttons.
Other mice use a USB dongle to pair to the computer, this one needs no attachments, and is the only wireless mouse in my estimation you should use with your Apple product.
I love this mouse, and I use it in conjunction with Apple's wireless keyboard. A great conbination!
