Customer Review: Stylish and functional keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this to replace my plastic white iMac's keyboard (last generation system). The flatness took some getting used to, but once you adapt, you'll enjoy typing on it more. I certainly do. This design is beautiful and takes up less space. The keys feel better to the touch and don't make nearly as much noise.

As with all of Apple's designs, you don't have to sacrifice form for functionality, or the other way around. This keyboard is both stylish AND practical. And at $30, you don't have to suffer much for fashion either. This price is comparable to other keyboards.

The keyboard also supplies 2 extra USB ports, a much needed innovation for a lot of people. The one major downside is that they don't provide enough power to run most of my devices, except for USB memory sticks or mouse. USB-powered hard drives, Wacom tablets, even SD/CF card readers will fail because they require more current than these ports supply, so you'll have to plug them into the computer, or a powered hub.

But keyboards with USB ports are still uncommon, so I do not fault Apple for not giving them more current. I am very happy with this attractive, comfortable, and useful keyboard.

Customer Review: Outstanding Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a killer of keyboards. AND, since I use them so much, I'm also sensitive to good and bad keyboards.

As is my wont, I read the 1 star reviews first. I have to say that I cannot fathom what these people are talking about. The short throw on the key is what makes this thing so responsive. If one's fingers hurt from using a keyboard, you're using a manual typewriter or you're doing something dramatically WRONG. The short throw and silent response suit me just wonderfully, and the keys are MUCH better spaced than on my MacBook, the old Powerbooks or the Duo series.

I'm now into my fourth week with this thing. I'd estimate that I spend at least four hours a day ACTUALLY typing on the keyboard, no hunt and peck, but full volume documentation type writing.

I find, so far, the keyboard to be outstanding, my error rate dropped the instant I started using it (and did my "technical language") and my typing rates increased significantly.

In my experience so far, I can only give this keyboard my highest recommendation.

Once I've had it under my hands for 3-6 months, I'll update this review with the experiences to that date.

Customer Review: Best keyboard i've ever used
Summary: 5 Stars

I've always used Windows keyboards, but when I recently bought a Mac Mini, I wanted to buy a Apple Keyboard to go along with it. This thing is fantastic. The low profile keys, and slim design help me type faster then I already do (135 wpm before this keyboard), I need see how much my typing has improved, but I do feel a difference. It really all comes down to the low profile keys, they are vastly different then the normal keyboards people are use to. Basically think of this as a laptop keyboard, but for your desktop PC.

I also use this keyboard on my Windows machine. Getting it to work was a breeze. It took me all of a minute to find a registry file that someone had created that you just run once, and the apple keyboard will work exactly like a windows keyboard. The command key turns into the Windows key, and ctrl+alt+delete work like they should, etc. The only thing I can't figure out is how to take screen shots of the entire screen with this key.

Otherwise I am very impressed. The design is great, the keyboard looks incredible. It is also very quiet, which is a huge plus, as I am often up late at night and having a noisy keyboard bothers me to no end.

Customer Review: long fingernails? stay away from this
Summary: 4 Stars

Not all Apple aluminum USB 2.0 keyboards are the same. During the first half year of initial introduction, the keyboards used more electricity. Generally speaking, SanDisk USB 2.0 flash drives draws less current, so flash drives as large as 8GB could operate from the USB port, which is really convenient. However, the same 8GB flash drives may not work through the USB ports of those early-run keyboards, even if you remove the mouse from the other keyboard USB port.

The numeric-keypad-less model was produced more than a year after the original aluminum USB 2.0, so it draws even less current (probably because of the lack of the numeric keypad), so it definitely works with 8GB and occasionally 16GB USB flash drives from SanDisk. I have noticed that other brands of flash drives are more likely to produce the 'lower power' warning.

Now, for those with long fingernails: stay away from this one. Regardless of how shallow or deeply the key travels, if you have long fingernails, they have to go somewhere. The gaps between the keys on the traditional keyboards facilitate that, but with this one, the aluminum top plate stops the fingernails from traveling downward.

Customer Review: Great upgrade from the tiny wireless keyboard
Summary: 4 Stars

Got a new iMac bundled with the wireless keyboard and decided to give it a shot. Discovered very quickly how much I use the keypad and even the other "extra" keys. So I found a good deal for this keyboard on eBay and am glad I did. While the old Apple Extended Keyboard (back in the ADB days) was probably their best ever, this is a very nice keyboard. It matches the styling of the iMac, provides the extra keys, yet still maintains a fairly compact design. The ergonomics seem OK with the setup I have. Once I discovered I can set the Function Keys to work as normal function keys and have the special aspects (brightness, exposé, volume, etc.) used when I press the fn key I was even happier. I do find that fn key in an odd position only because it's different from where they put it on laptops. But now that I've changed the key mapping that won't be as much of an issue. The cable was definitely long enough to connect to the computer (which hasn't always been the case with Apple keyboards without extenders) and it works great in conjunction with the Magic Mouse (which I love BTW). All in all I definitely recommend this keyboard over the tiny wireless one.
