Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Airport ExpressCustomer Review: Difficult to install, great to use Summary: 4 StarsLooking for a way to play my iTunes music on my old-fashioned Nakamishi stereo gear, I considered a number of possible hardware setups, internet radio type devices, and settled on the Airport Express, primarily because I thought the price was reasonable and because (even though I'm not an Apple person, yet) my experience with a Nano and iTunes was positive.
I was concerned about all the comments that I read suggesting that AE wasn't very compatible with WEP network security and that it was a difficult install. I think those comments are half true - I have WEP security and didn't have to do anything special to get AE to work, and didn't have to change to WPA security, but it took quite awhile to install this thing, about 90 minutes, necause it was rather difficult to get it logged in to my network. Even after following the various tips that you'll find in reviews and on the internet about AE, it took several attempts at entering the wireless info and passcode, etc., and then resetting and restarting the AE unit, but it finally worked. I think that the installation also changed a security setting for the wireless network, but just on the computer where I installed the AE software. Took me a day to figure that out, but since getting that right the unit works perfectly and without any complications. Have never had to re-open the management software since then.
I have this set up with two different computers (you only need to run the installation on one computer to get it connected to the network, and then choose those speakers in each computer's copy of iTunes) and it is totally cool. Everything on my ipod through my good stereo, don't think I've loaded a CD since installing it... only shortcoming is that you have to have a computer running, and iTunes open.
I also got the Monster cable that goes with the AE and, although expensive, I'd recommend it. Clean and simple.
Customer Review: internet access made easy Summary: 5 StarsThe apple airport express makes wireless connection a simple plug and play. It is too bad the Apple salesman did not recommend this at the time I bought the MacBook Pro. I had to wait 3 days while I ordered it from Amazon. Simply wonderful!!Apple Airport Express
Customer Review: If it would only accept a router signal and send it out via ethernet Summary: 3 StarsI thought I scored with this unit. I wanted to have my xbox connected via wireless along with my stereo. It's same price as the new wireless n attachment for the xbox so it seemed like a no brainer. The unit looks like it should be able to accept a signal from the router and send it out from the ethernet cable. Wrong. I called apple and they said the ethernet cable can only be directed inward. What a bummer. It would have been sweet to tie this into my current wireless network and get my xbox and stereo working. Also, the signal wasn't quite as good as a linksys160n. I was a little surprised by this. My xbox was only showing 2 bars. Might have been a user error, but I worked on it for a while and couldn't get it any better. So close, yet so far. If they can ever get it to accept a feed, it's a home run.
Customer Review: Simple, compact ... WiFi that pays for itself. Summary: 5 StarsSurf the web or check your e-mail from the La-Z-Boy. The Airport Express pays for itself with downloads to your iPhone. In Canada ... my Fido plan allowed 1 GB per month of data downloads. The free Wikipedia app for the iPhone is a 2 GB download.

Signal strength: -3 dBm is half ... +3 dBm is twice the signal strength ... so when (iPhone App) WiFi Trak gives you a signal of -30 dBm it is twice the milliwatts of -33 dBm.
+10 dBm is ten times the signal strength. So -30 dBm is ten times stronger than -40 dbm. 0 dBm equals 1 milliwatt.
Tusen Takk!
Customer Review: Had some issues at first but... Summary: 4 StarsThe Airport is great, HOWEVER, I have to say that when I first received it I was sent an OLD, USED one. I was very upset by this and had to mail it back to Amazon (though with UPS picking it up I didn't have to pay for postage) but they were expeditious in sending me another and the second time out, I indeed received a brand new Airport. It was more of a headache and brief inconvenience, but Amazon was good about correcting their mistake. This was also a great buy- less than usual cost.
