Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station MB053LL/A [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Excellent Signal Strength!! Summary: 5 Stars
I had a Linksys Wireless-G router and decided to upgrade to Wireless-N. I purchased the WRT310N and found it to have less signal strength than my old Wireless-G. I returned to a local dealer and purchased the WRT600N (very expensive) and the signal strength wasn't any better so I returned it. I read reviews on the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station and decided to try it. Ordered from Amazon and it was amazing how simple it was to set up and the signal strength jumped at least 20 to 30% more. I have it installed on a Dell XPS PC with Windows XP and it didn't take but 10 minutes to get it set up. We have a total of 6 computers (3 Macs and 3 Windows) and it works like a charm. The only reason we don't have it hooked to a Mac is because the Road Runner cable is downstairs and the Macs are upstairs so we didn't want to spend the money to have it moved. We are very, very impressed with this router and would highly recommend it - it's also a very simple design!!
Customer Review: AWESOME... MAC ROCKS! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a MAC user for years now, and this one surprised me. Don't ask me why - I should expect this from MAC products, I know...
I setup a wireless network with my Intel iMac, wireless enabled pc laptop, and Nintendo Wii. The entire system worked flawlessly, and is lightning quick. In not even 30 minutes, the network was up and functional.
I did have to use WEP security, but that is only because the pc's wireless card is old. But the iMac and Wii hooked right up, with no problems.
The only beef I have is the price tag ... a bit steep. However, I had a Linksys wireless router before, and was such a pain in the neck to get just the Mac and pc on the same network. For all the countless hours I spent on their useless tech support, I am happy to pay extra for a product that works.
**BONUS** This device will be covered under your AppleCare extended warranty for no additional charge. Now THAT rocks!
Customer Review: Perfect Performance Summary: 5 Stars
This product, in apple fashion, has performed perfectly with no extra attention from myself. I bought the product used and had trouble setting it up to begin with since there was already a password protected network in place, which I didn't realize. Of course installation instructions are intended for bought-new products so I had to do some research to learn how to reset (once I even figured out why I couldn't find the network). This isn't a fault of the product however, but a result of buying it used. Once setup the wireless router has worked flawlessly for over a month with no extra attention. Exactly what I needed since I don't care about custom settings and specifications. I just wanted to use the internet and I got it. Speed is excellent when simultaneously using Xbox 360 (wired) and three laptops (wireless). Coverage extends well into the parking lot from my apartment so no problems there. Very satisfied with the product.
Customer Review: Great Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I originally purchased a Netgear WNR854T (Wireless-N gigabit router). I had nothing but problems trying to get this to work. Internet connection kept dropping or connection to router from PC would go down.
I eventually gave up and purchased the Apple Airport Extreme as a replacement.
The Apple Airport was easy to setup. I was on the Internet literally within 10 minutes without any issues. My PC to the Airport is connecting at gigabit speed via one of the lan connectors on the back.
I haven't had any problems with it all. The utility to configure the Airport is easy for the novice or the more experienced who want to manually configure some of the Airport's options.
I used a Netgear wireless-N adapter to connect from a pc in another part of the house. Works fine with the Apple Airport.
A Nintendo Wii connects and works perfectly with the wireless connection.
Customer Review: Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (gigabit) Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased one of these from the Apple Store locally last week. Brought it home and set it up from the new Macbook all seemed well. (I specifically purchased this for the usb print and hard drive abilities and mac and win support) All was well on the Mac and then for the XP SP3 machines, all well except printing. What no printing and no real help or suggestions. My own troubleshooting answered it, for whatever reason the included airport extreme cd does not correctly install Bonjour for Windows (required for printing), and you will not get errors during the install just no printing. SOLUTION: Download Bonjour for Windows from Apple site run and choose to remove Bonjour and after that completes re-run and all is well.
The one windows printing glitch is the difference in 4 star vs. 5 star rating.
This is a great solid router for mixed environment with printing and hard drive abilities. Worth the $180.
