Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antennas Direct DB4 Multi-Directional HDTV Antenna

Customer Review: Best antenna on the market for digital reception
Summary: 5 Stars

The DB4 was the strongest antenna I have tried. It is also the only one that receives every digital station at nearly 40 miles from the Kansas City stations, (and my signal meter pegged.) I was even able to pick up a few out of area stations I was not expecting. The build quality is better than anything else I have seen.

I have recommended the DB4 to several friends who are also having similar success. It would be hard to screw up HD reception with a DB4, but I would not use an antenna as strong is this if you live less than 5 miles from the transmitters as you may encounter multipath interference.

Also keep in mind, even a great antenna can not make up for line of sight obstacles such as buildings and hills, and no antenna will it solve installation errors with, poor connections, splitters, long cable runs, low elevation or faulty tuners.

Customer Review: West Los Angeles - exactly what I needed!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been battling for over the air HD reception for 1.5 years now trying more inexpensive modes. Finally bought this DB4 and am ecstatic at the quality. My HD TiVo is pulling in 89% reception on CBS where previously was getting 61 or so at best and would drop to 0% depending on the day.

Of course, I've only just now installed it so inclement weather will be the true test.

One downer - the included mounting bracket is for a 2.5" pipe diameter which is just a teeny bit too small to mount to an exhaust pipe on our roof. I'll have to run to Home Depot and grab a bigger U-bolt to mount it a bit more securely than it is now.

For reference, I'm in Mar Vista (West Los Angeles) and can see the mountains (from the roof on a non-smoggy day) where the transmitters are by sight, and I believe I'm 26.4 miles from the towers.

Customer Review: Works as well has can be expected
Summary: 4 Stars

Antenna is very simple to setup and works well at times. My only complaint is not the antenna but the fact that I have 3 tuners and 2 splitters from this antenna. Bedroom get all channels that I would want but in living room. I have TV and a Media Center Computer they get all but one channel. Even with amplifier here still have problem. Just have to adjust antenna again to find that sweet spot. I live in North Sacramento but I was able to get channels from the Bay Area one night when I did a rescan. Using Zenith converter box in bedroom, and in living room have TV tuner and a usb tuner for computer. I would say to get the most out of the antenna website like antennaweb.org have helped a lot in getting antenna lined up to broadcast signal. Over all if this antenna continues to work as well as it has I would gladly purchase this model again or the DB8 in the future.

Customer Review: Works indoors for me, near RTP, NC
Summary: 4 Stars

Works great indoors, as research & other recommendations noted.
Skipped buying the stand, since it can sit on the floor or a speaker.

In normal weather conditions, I can leave it pointed East & pickup all local broadcasts (under about 50 mi) without needing to adjust the antenna. This includes stations coming from the West like PBS (UNC-TV). Cloudy/windy/rainy sometimes requires adjustments, but that's expected & acceptable for free HD/DTV.

The setup presently is a Phillips HD-ready TV (CRT style) with a Samsung HDTV tuner. Previously had been using the smallest antenna style from an ATI HDTV Wonder kit, which had trouble maintaining a signal since it was designed for closer towers.

Our home location is near RTP, NC by the mall [.........]

Shipping was fast also; in time for a big weekend football game!

Customer Review: Like Magic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in an area with reception issues. Line of sight is interupted by the end of a mountain range. Distance to towers is about 25 miles. Analog is out of the question but once I was ready for digital TV I decided to give it a try. I tried three different antennas. First, the kind that clip onto your satellite dish. Didn't work. Then I tried two different indoor/outdoor amplified types. Did not get ANY digital channels.

So I decided to go for a real, mounted type antenna and chose the DB4, based on reviews, specs, size, and cost.

It immediately found ALL the digital channels available in my area, just from testing it inside the house! It is mounted outside now, and I receive all channels at high strength ranging from 70% to 89%. I am using about 75ft of cable and a distribution amplifier just before a splitter to two rooms. It works!
