Customer Review: Not a miracle product

I finally got rid of Charter Cable (absolutely the WORST organization I have ever dealt with), and got a satelite dish. My local channels were not available, so I bought this item based on the many positive reviews.
I actually came across this based on an 'indoor antenna' search, but this product is not meant to be indoors. When I tried it indoors there was very little improvement in reception compared with a very old indoor antenna I had in my 'junk box'.
I then installed it on my roof outdoors. I had two choices as to the direction I wanted the antenna to point to. I live just outside of Springfield Mass, so I could point it southeast to pick up the Hartford Conn. channels (about 45 miles away), or point it northeast for the Springfield channels (about 10-15 miles away). I decided to aim it at the Hartford channels. My thought process was being that the Springfield channels were so close I would get them easily, so I would do better aiming it towards Hartford.
The reception did improve, but no where near what the other reviewers experienced. I often get the dreaded "SIGNAL LOST" message while watching Springfield or Hartford channels. The Hartford channels do come in better, which means this antenna is VERY directional. Signals coming from 90 degress from where the antenna is pointed will have a lot of difficulties.
With my antenna aimed towards Hartford I should have much better reception than I am now getting, considering the signals are not that far away. I am getting a signal booster for this antenna, another $40.00, and hopefully this will stop the "SIGNAL LOST" situations. But considering the fact that I am no longer subscribing to Charter Cable, it is more that worth the price (the savings I am getting from switching from Charter to satelite will pay for both the antenna and the booster in less than 3 months).
