Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec MX-100 3.5-Inch USB Aluminum Enclosure for SATA Hard DriveCustomer Review: Easy & Durable! Summary: 5 Stars
Before purchasing this item, I scrolled through the other reviews, which I found to be fairly accurate. I used it with my Western Digital 500GB SATA Hard Drive. As mentioned in the other reviews: instructions are not necessary. It is very simple to use and has an elegant look to boot. The only minus is the enormous wall wart used to plug it in. It will generally cover over other inputs when used. Aside from that - it's a great product. Bravo, Antec!
Customer Review: Mine shipped with "Windows 98 only" software, could not download from Antec Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this product because it was rated very well by the other ratings. However, mine arrived with a "Windows 98 or Windows 98SE" installation disk. I double-checked online that it was indeed compatible with the Windows XP version I had, so I tried using the CD anyway. A pop-up window came up which confirmed it was only useable with Windows 98, so now I am waiting for a response from the Antec web site, since there were no searchable downloads for this product!
Customer Review: Antec MX-100 3.5-Inch USB Aluminum Enclosure Summary: 5 Stars
I have two of these external enclosures for my older SATA drives. I am running Win7 x64. Installing the drives into the enclosure was not hard but the three-pin power/disk activity LED connector is a little tricky to connect. Be aware that this enclosure supports drives only up to 1 TB. The enclosures definitely get warm during operation but not hot. As with all external devices, ensure you dismount it from Windows prior to disconnecting it and powering down.
Customer Review: Looks great and mostly works, but some vibration and connectivity issues Summary: 3 Stars
The title says most of what I want to say. I've had some noise issues (from vibration) as well as issues with the drive disappearing from my computer (only after a period of inactivity, not during transfers). Possibly one or both of these is the hard drive itself or my computer, but my hunch is that they're the enclosure's fault. However, don't count this review too strongly (would've given it 1 star if I had known for sure that it was the enclosure's fault).
Customer Review: Make good use of an old hard drive Summary: 5 Stars
I replaced an 80GB hard drive with an 1T drive, but didn't want to give away or put the old drive on the shelf. This enclosure solved the problem, and gave me a new external USB drive for a very small investment. It was a piece of cake to install the drive in the enclosure, and it worked great right from the start. I searched all the possible enclosures, and selected this one because of price, durability and style. I wasn't disappointed in any way.
