Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec MX-100 3.5-Inch USB Aluminum Enclosure for SATA Hard Drive

Customer Review: great enclosure
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally bought this enclosure to try to use an old drive I had lying around, but the drive itself turned out to be broken so I decided to just order a new hard drive. Installing and removing the drives from this case was extremely easy, just 6 screws and the case has a direct plug in to the hard drive for power and sata, no need for a sata cable or anything. After that, just plug in the wire for the front LED and slide the case closed and secure with the last two screws.

The aluminum casing itself if very nice, it keeps the drive cool and is very sleek and space conscious, it takes up only the room it needs without any extra bulk some drives could have.

The only thing I didn't like is the power switch is on the back at the very bottom, below the wires so it's a little awkward to power on and off, but eventually you get used to it.

I would definitely buy another one if I ever need another external drive and I would recommend this case to friends if they're ever in the market.

Customer Review: Best External SATA Enclosure On The Market
Summary: 5 Stars

Antec is a 2 ton gorilla in the market for computer cases. They wouldn't simply put their name on some junk oem product.

This enclosure isn't tool-less, it requires a Phillips screwdriver everytime you want to put in and remove the drive. But it's extremely easy, takes less than 5 minutes to set-up and works flawlessly.

This device doesn't have a fan, so you do not want to use a drive that runs too hot. But if you team this up with a Western Digital Caviar Green, it will be ideal.

It runs my drive really cool even after 10 hours of operation. Ideal for creating backups or additional storage for videos and music. It also saves you money over buying an external hard drive, by converting your existing extra hard drives to external.

There are lots of horror stories about other external enclosures but this one has nearly a flawless review history on both Amazon and Newegg...so I say you can't go wrong for $30 on this.

Customer Review: Slim, Attractive and Super Fast Shipping
Summary: 5 Stars

I was using a Western Digital My Book 500gb External HD for almost a year and occasionally when I would reboot my machine the drive wouldn't be recognized until I unplugged and restarted it a few times. Eventually it stopped being recognized altogether so I decided to purchase a new enclosure, hoping that the HD itself was still functional. Well, I ordered this through regular standard shipping on a Monday and it was at my place on Wednesday. That was an amazingly fast turnaround.

Anyway, I have only been using this enclosure with my WD 500gb HD for about a week now but everything has been perfect so far. The enclosure looks nice and is way slimmer than the original Western Digital one that the drive came with. And the setup takes about 30 seconds. Although I have no clue how well this will last, I am extremely happy so far. With the speed of shipping, the good value, the nice design, and the ease of setting it up, I would definitely recommend this highly.

Customer Review: Excellent external enclosure
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent product for the price! You definitely want to buy this, especially if you have a big hard disk (like 1.5 TB Seagate drive in my case).

Hooking up the whole thing barely took 10 minutes. A couple of screws wouldn't fit correctly, but that's a minor thing considering it has nothing to do with the usage.

The drive was recognized immediately without any issues on my Vista as well as Linux machine, which shows the support they claim isn't a farce.

I'll summarize the pros and cons for easy reading:

Pros:
- Supports high capacity drives unlike most USB enclosures out there
- Lightweight
- No noise as there is no fan
- Excellent finish
- Cheap
- Very cool white status / power light

Cons:
- None really except that a couple of screws didn't fit in straight away

Overall I would rate this as a very good buy and would definitely buy again!

Customer Review: Initial Review of this enclosure....
Summary: 4 Stars

Ok, I like this enclosure... haven't had it for very long yet, but so far I like it. It's brushed black metal with a straight forward configuration.

THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE is the power cord is so damn short! If you're lucky it's about 3ft long, which means you should have an extra long USB cable if you want to do anything with this drive, cause it has to be close to the power source. The other thing about the power cord is that the plug could take up some room on the power strip, but I never stress this because I'm smart enough to move things around if it interferes and even then, my UPS has them spaced far enough apart for it not to matter.

Other than that, we'll see how long this thing lasts, but it's sturdy, has a great base to stand on, and it's black with a FRIGGIN' BAT as the power/data light! I love ANTEC STUFF!!!
