Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec Cyclone Blower Case Fan for Any Expansion SlotCustomer Review: Worth every penny! Summary: 5 Stars
I read a lot of the reviews by the amazon community and finally decided to buy this. I must say I have no regrets what so ever! Firstly this is one of the most cost effective products for simple pc cooling. It is very easy to install and fits perfectly. The one thing some that may bother some users is the increase in fan noise, however it was barely noticeable for my tower.
I installed this in an HP computer, which is for my everyday computing needs. Core temperatures were around 30-35c and onboard graphics were around 80c! I recently installed a ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series Card just to manage videos and light gaming. Temperatures were 45-47c. With Antec Cyclone Blower installed Core Temperatures fell to 24-25c, while the graphics card temperatures dropped to 42-43c.
For the cost of the item, with simple gains as that it is definitely worth it. I think it was so effective because of being in a stock case, whereas after market and gaming towers are designed for more airflow. I would recommend this buy for anyone, but more specifically to people who have stock pc's from the manufacturer (Dell, HP etc).
Great product overall!
Customer Review: What is That Smell? Summary: 2 Stars
Seemed the only non-water way to cool my video card was one of these slot based ones. This one was made by a reputable company and looked well constructed so I purchased it around 4 months ago.
It started out well enough, easy to install and dropped video card temps around 4-6 degrees C under full load. Not great, but not bad for the price. Then after a couple weeks it started to make terrible noises. Cleaned it out with no love. Found that if I jammed some paper under a corner and supported it from the bottom of the case, I could reduce the noise. This was a temporary solution as it eventually vibrates it's way into making the noises again. Just not built solidly enough to handle the constant vibration, no matter tightly you screw it into the slot.
Then came the smells. My wife described it best as "Dentist's office smell", and this came after a month and periodically since then. I have not isolated it due to temps or vibration, but it definately has something burning/shorting in it every once and a while.
There are better solutions out there, would not recommend this product.
Customer Review: ANTEC Cyclone Blower Case fan Review Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this fan to assist the cooling of my computer case, and it works as advertised. It is a single-din type fan that sucks the heated air inside the case from a fan that is bottom mouted, and blows it out the rear side of the case. This is how all graphics video cards should be designed. I bought this fan because my EVGA GX-2 Video Card is heating up the inside of the case pretty good, so I needed a little more to assist the cooling. Great idea, great product! And, cheap! If I could fit this in a din slot higher than the graphics card I would have been happier but this is not possible due to my computer case configuration. It is better (in my opinion) to see if this case fan can be utilized HIGHER than your video card as HEAT RISES. So check your computer case configuration first where it could fit. It is working great, but the air it is moving out is from BELOW my graphics card, and since heat rises, I don't think the fan is sucking out the majority of the hot air. But, IT WORKS!!! And it is sucking out some which does make a difference!
Customer Review: Limited effectiveness for an enclosed space, Not a stand alone product. Summary: 3 Stars
First, in a tower case the fans have to be located below the motherboard and power supply since that's where the expansion slots are. Heat rises, and the intake on these fans isn't strong enough to pull it back down and push it out. That means you can catch the heat from other expansion cards (like video cards), but the hottest parts of the computer get a very limited cooling effect.
If you have your tower in a desk enclosure it's worse. The fan slots can't be angled to blow the air out of the enclosure. That puts all the hot air around the back of case, which heats both the air back there and also heats up the wood or metal in back of the desk enclosure, so most of the heat gets pulled right back inside the case again. Using two (or more) of these helps a little by creating a better, stronger, air flow. Using them with a conventional add-on case and/or power supply fan (like the Nexus Real Silent Case fan) helps much more. Just don't expect that adding only one of these by itself is going to make a whole lot of difference overall.
Customer Review: Powerful and noisy Summary: 4 Stars
I have a Compaq SR1820NX desktop which is a very quiet machine in most time. Only when it has run for quite a long time and it is hot in the room, the system fan will run at full speed and becomes very noisy. Since I added a 7600gs passive heatsink card, the system fan needs to work at full speed more often. So I decided to add an additional fan and place it directly beneath my video card. This fan is really poweful, you can sense the strong wind flow coming out from it. And since this fan helps a lot in circulting the air in the tower, my system fan never needs to work at full speed again. Another good thing is my video card temperature ranges from 55-73 down to 45-55. That's a big drop! The only complaint I have is the 28db is quite noticable and a little bit annoying especially when the room is quiet. Overall I recommand this product. If you own a passive heatsink video card and you plan to OC it, this is a must buy.
