Customer Review: Didn't Work For Me
Summary: 1 Stars

There are a lot of 5-star reviews for this product, but it didn't work for me. My wife is very hard of hearing. We have one Clarity phone with bass boost, and she loves it. So, I thought I'd try this amplifier instead of buying another amplified phone system. This way we could use it at home and easily take it with us if we traveled anywhere. There was incredibly loud feedback when the phone was first answered. That could have been due to our DSL line, but with/without phone filter, it didn't work. Also, in order to use the "boost" function, the button has to be pushed and held down while listening and then released when talking. It eliminates background noise by shutting down the telephone microphone, so the hard of hearing person has to keep their thumb on the boost button--press, release, press, release--throughout the telephone conversation. Kudos to Amazon for their return policy.

Customer Review: Buyer Beware!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this adapter to produce more volume for my phone, but what's not listed on the tech specs or product information on their website is that this adapter requires a special telephone cord connector that's REALLY difficult to find. What you need is a 4-pin connector, but not just any 4-pin; you'll need a non-standard, smaller, and narrower one to insert into the adapter. Radio Shack doesn't carry these in stock, unless you want to buy the cord and the connector separately and then crimp your own cord (I would not recommend this unless you like electrical hobbies).

If you can find a non-standard 4-pin telephone cord (smaller, narrower size), you're in luck. If not, I surely hope you don't wast $5 returning this like I am! Buy the Ameriphone instead.

Customer Review: Sound cuts out
Summary: 3 Stars

The sound quality of this amplifier is great! You can adjust the tone to a clear frequency and boost sound levels as required at the touch of a button. It is easy to set up and use. Definitely worth the price. I stopped using mine after a week however, because unless someone is speaking into the receiver the sound cuts out. You cannot hear when the phone is ringing on the other end and then when the person answers there is a lag time before you can hear them speak. Also if there is a lull in conversation the amplifier stops until someone talks again (probably to save battery life). Since I bought this amplifier to clarify tone on my hand receiver at work I find this lag time very inconvenient for my purpose. I think it would be fine if used in a non-work setting.

Customer Review: Okay for the Right Ears
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this amplifier and used it for a brief period. At first, the unit seemed to work well by increasing the volume of calls to assist me with my declining hearing ability. After awhile, however, the tone of the unit became uncomfortable to both my ears, regardless of any adjustments I made. It was also difficult for me to understand all of what the other party was saying. The HA40 may work fine for those who have different frequency needs than I do, but it was not for me. I also tried the unit from Clear Sounds and had a similar experience. I returned both of them. (Thank you, Amazon.) I then tried an amplifier called Serene which I purchased at another location since it is not offered at Amazon. It works very well and I am pleased with it.

Customer Review: Works Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wear hearing aids behind my ears, so holding the phone up to my ear gives me no amplification. This has been frustrating for some time now. When I saw this product I was a bit nervous about ordering it because of some the bad feedback. But it hooked up in less than a minute and worked perfectly at once. It is easily adjustable and gives no feedback or unwanted noise. The boost button has not been needed yet. After half a day I can already recommend this for anyone with hearing problems. Yes, it won't work if the buttons are in the receiver and that should be explained in the description. If there is a downside, and it's a small one, it's that the cord could be longer but they're cheap to by anywhere. This gets a 10 out of 10 rating
