Amazon apparently is now branding some manufactured products with their own name. Perhaps this has been going on a while, I don't know.
The AmazonBasics Universal Camera Case for Digital Cameras HF (Black) (whew!) is a simple bag with clean lines. It's supposedly made for a digital camera but my film point-n-shoot goes in fine as well.
I like the fact that it is generously-sized. Some bags are just too tight for all but the thinnest cameras. This one is made to take a number of different camera sizes. For example, my old Vivitar 3.3 mega fits perfectly. This is an older camera that is fat and a bit clunky. My Olympus 35mm fits snugly, and my late-model Canon point-n-shoot, though much smaller than the first two, fits as well. Even an old Kodak 110 camera fits fine.
The case does have a zipper, but surprisingly it's just on the small pouch on the front of the case. It's perfect for a memory card, or batteries. It's nice that it is an expanding pouch, so it could hold AAA batteries and a couple of SD cards without a problem.
It has a velcroed belt loop in the back, so you can thread your belt through it, and have it securely attached to yourself.
My only concern with the bag is that your camera is only held in by the velcro attachment that holds the bag flap down. I like bags with a zippered opening; it feels much more secure than velcro. And I worry more about the velcro belt loop attachment! I assumed the belt loop was stitched on both sides, but it's only stitched at the top! I'd worry about an expensive camera falling out if you were bending over, or bicycling, or being at all active with the camera attached to your belt. I'd prefer a zipper or at least a solid snap or other closure. Some cameras fit so snugly that they won't just fall out, but cameras are getting smaller and smaller, and with only velcro, I'd worry.
I thing a good course of action is to get the old needle and thread out, and put a few stitches in the bottom velcro of the belt loop. I know that sort of defeats the purpose of the easy-on, easy-off idea, but I think it's just too easy to have the entire case just fall off!
On the other hand, it's very handy to have the camera quickly available for picture-taking. One doesn't have to fumble with a zipper to get the camera out.
All-in-all, a fine bag and a simple, functional design. No fru-fru here. Just clean lines and a simple look to the bag.
Recommended only for an inexpensive camera, or one that fits tightly into the bag, and that's if you aren't moving around a lot. Otherwise, get a more expensive bag. Two stars for this if you are depending on it to protect an expensive camera (stitch the bottom belt loop, or just throw the camera in case in your luggage). It's just too risky for me.
Workmanship is very good, straight stitching, no frayed threads hanging out, that sort of thing. However, I'd worry about the closure material. Just like a bowl of chocolate ice cream, velco doesn't last forever. I have a cell phone case that closes with velcro, and it's won't hardly attach anymore. I suppose you could just go out and buy a new bag, but that sort of defeats the purpose that made you buy the bag in the first place.
