Customer Review: Handy to have a spare

At 14.99 it is worth having a spare. The Kindle always seems to run low on power at the farathest distance from wherever the cord is plugged in. THe first chaarger is plugges in next to my bed and I have been keeping the extra one plugged in next to my reading chair. I also like it for travel.
I also love the detachable plug. I have used it to charge other items that are slow to take an initial charge through a USB. I don't know why more products don't come with one.

Bought my Kindle in 2009. Absolutely thrilled with this great machine. Can't say the same for the power cord. This cord remains at home 95 per cent of the time. Cracks in the cord covering have appeared all over the length of the cord. In a number of places the wiring is exposed. I now have a "zebra" cord with black tape covering the cracks in 14 separate places, not counting the other locations with slits (soon to be cracks). Sorry that this product is inferior.Customer Review: The brittle recharger

I love my Kindle 2, so imagine how it pains me to admit this: I hate the recharger. Yes, it's beautiful and easy to stow away. But it fails to do the one thing a recharger should do, namely, recharge.
Specifically, the plastic is falling off in sheets from around the metal core of the charging line. This is a negative experience.
The part is now not quite two years old, and it's been well-treated.
Not good.

My beloved husband is horrible about keeping up with things like power adapters and keys. So I am pre-empting him by getting a spare immediately.
The design of the Kindle 2 power adapter is most excellent. The price is reasonable, and it rolls up compactly to be placed out of sight until needed. Love the 2-in-1 function with the USB. The fact that it can be used with some other mini-USB devices is an added bonus. It's a winner!

I turned on my Kindle and the battery was dead! Oh no, I really need it for a book I was required to read. Plugged it in to the adapter and nothing happened. Either it's the Kindle or the power plug. I called the help number for Kindle on the Amazon website and the service rep. immediately knew that it was the power plug and had one fed ex'ed to me the very next day. Now, my Kindle is up and running beautifully. Wonderful service!
