Customer Review: Replaced Kindle Battery
Summary: 4 Stars

Original battery was 3 years old and died suddenly - wouldn't take a charge. We have 2 Kindles and the second Kindle battery still holds a charge for hours and recharges quickly. That is why we decided to replace the dead battery with the same brand Amazon chose to install originally rather than take a chance on a new brand.

One problem: I tried to call an Amazon tech only to learn its a "pay for up front" service. I finally decided to remove the battery from the second Kindle and try it in the first. It worked, and thus I knew I had a dead battery. Without that option available I would not have been able to know for sure it was a dead battery and would have had to order a new one on a "hunch", or pay a fee for an Amazon "tech" to guess for me. Amazon needs to have a quick source tech available at no cost to answer questions on products they choose to sell.

After 2 months the battery is performing as expected. Amazon is always easy to do business with and we are completely satisfied with the transaction and the battery.

Customer Review: Lemons and the Battery
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered this battery as a first replacement for my KIndle (Edition 1). It doens't keep a charge for much more than a day and it actually performs on a par with the battery I replaced because it was losing chargeability. Disappointing - not sure what to do since I am not inclined to patronize the company that made this lemon.

I have owned my Kindle for about two years and I love what it can do -- WHEN it does it. As time goes on, I have more and more glitches with it: it freezes at least twice a week and that is a pain since I rarely can recapture where I was. One of the less good things about Kindle technology is the pagination system. And there are other things as well.

It does not seem to me that a device that cost as much as this one did when I bought it should be deteriorating as mine is now. Planned obsolescence is one thing but this isn't a stove or ice box which a both essentials. I am thinking my next device will not be Kindle. And I regret that because I do like Amazon.com's service.

Customer Review: Somebody told me a fib. . .
Summary: 1 Stars

I had one of the original Kindles and left the Whispernet on 24/7 to catch my newspaper subscriptions. I bought an extra battery with the unit just in case. When I saw the Kindle 2 was coming out, I noticed in the photos there was no battery door. This worried me as no battery lasts forever so I called the Kindle department. The representative told me they had so few requests for batteries on the Kindle 1, they weren't putting replaceable batteries on the Kindle 2. He said the problem was by leaving my Whispernet on all the time it drained the battery. Like a dummy, I bought a Kindle 2, and then all of a sudden they started selling batteries again. There was about a 4 month lag between the time I talked to the representative and the time they started selling batteries again, and because I can't live without my Kindle I was forced to buy a Kindle 2, and it looks like the new DX, no battery door at all. I can see big problems ahead for owners of Kindle 2 and the new DX, just a "heads up" folks.

Customer Review: Delivered quickly, works perfectly
Summary: 5 Stars

When my 18-month old Kindle I abruptly quit a little over a month ago, I thought it was the end of the line. A friend had just had his go cold as a brick, and we had both gotten them at the same time. A little experimenting, however, suggested that the machine was OK, but that it might need a battery (removing the battery and connecting the Kindle's AC adaptor produced a message to reinsert the battery).

Amazon had it in stock at a good price ($19.95 as I recall). A number of the reviews, though, complained about how long batteries lasted, but they were all over a year old. Because my Kindle is like a second brain, I figured I'd risk it.

Three days later I had installed and powered on. It hasn't missed a beat, and if anything, battery life is better than the original, although to be honest, this is just an impression. Of course, it's too early to know how long this battery is going to last, but I'm hoping it will bridge me to a new Kindle, perhaps around Christmas.

Customer Review: Kindle backup battery
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had my Kindle for a couple of months and wouldn't part with it. The battery is another matter. I wish the Chinese and Japanese manufacturers would settle on a battery standard and that the batteries would be easy to remove and insert.

While it is not brain surgery, having to take the Kindle out of its folder (especially since I have Velcro'd it in so it wouldn't fall out), remove the back, pry the battery out of its nest and unplug it and then having to do the same steps in reverse to install the backup is a royal pain in the neck. The Kindle battery holds an adequate charge for everything except a long airplane trip and if you aren't lucky enough to have a power supply at your seat, you must have a backup battery.

Why do so many engineers design beautiful products and then run out of brain power when it comes to batteries?

So far the replacement battery works fine and it is reasonably priced but I gave it a 3 star rating for the above reasons.
