Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 Portable Audio System for iPod (White)Customer Review: Great sound in an ugly mp3 dock Summary: 5 Stars
I did much research before buying an mp3 dock. Information provided by manufacturers is often confusing and besides, how can you really buy a sound unit without hearing it. I narrowed my choice to two units, this and the Bose Soundock II. The Bose sound display at Best Buy would only let you listen to the Bosed canned demonstration presentation and even with that I found te Bose lacked something that the Alet Lansing inmotion has plenty of, and that is depth of sound. I did not buy this unit primarily for its portibility but rather for my home listening. It has deep rich sound with strong bass frequencies provided by its rather large (for a sound dock) bass drivers, and crisp dimentional mid and high end sound. Even at the lowest volume the sound is still rich without overpowereing converstion. When played loud there is no distortion, something I found present with the Bose. If you are going to go portable I would suggest buying the carring strap/case as the built in carring handle is a bit awkward. The inmotion could not be easier to use right out of the box, the sound is better than my rather expensive stereo with much larger speakers and the inmotion is about $100 less than the Bose. I just wish it came in colors other than white.
Customer Review: BE CAREFUL OF THIS PRODUCT Summary: 2 Stars
My stepdaughter received an iM7 and was very happy with the player. I liked it so much that I purchased one from Amazon. However, later I found there were some problems with the product. First, please understand that I do like the sound the iM7 produces and the mobility of the unit. Unfortunately, two months after purchase the power would not come on. My stepdaughter told me that her unit would also not turn on for ten minutes at a time. I called the Altec customer service, and was told to try the player on battery power; if it worked, they would just send out a new A/C power supply. I purchased new batteries ($$), but to no avail; the player still did not work. The second call to Altech was met with a very uncaring and dispassionate rep who bluntly said to ship it back to them. It was like pulling teeth to get the shipping information and necessary packaging instructions; again more ($$). I have yet to receive a new or repaired unit from Altec. Additional research from reviews indicates that many models have a door that does not latch. Bottomline == although the player sounds good, the manufacturing is suspect and the customer service is deplorable.

Customer Review: Truly amazing sound Summary: 5 Stars
This unit is brilliant! Rich, full sound with bass so solid you can't believe it comes from a package this size. I've tried it with several types of music and it's been well suited to each: With lo-fi, there's minimal distortion; electronica comes off crisp and clean; even driving guitars render well without sounding muddy. Imaging is excellent, and no matter how loud I've cranked it I can't get it to clip. Combined with an ipod and a portable cd player with a tuner, this could be your only sound system and you'd still have better fidelity than many component systems I've heard over the years.
I also like the fact that the volume setting is independent of the ipod's, so when you remove it from the iM7 and put headphones back in you don't have to readjust the iPod's volume. I haven't yet needed to play it with batteries, but I'm guessing it gets pretty heavy, so it's probably not well suited to be a traveling unit. Then again, none of the more portable units can come close to the bass response this model generates.
If you're looking for room-filling sound at a reasonable price (mine was $139 on Amazon), buy the iM7 without hesitation.
Customer Review: No BoomBox Compares, nothing comes close Summary: 5 Stars
This boombox is incredible. I have had it for over one year now and it continues to amaze me.
Pros:
-Unsurpassed sound volume. Not only is it LOUD, but it never distorts and is clear at ANY volume, none other deliver this
-Bass and Range is incredible, the Bass is powerful enough to deliver powerful bass throughout even a LARGE room.
-Compatable- this is compatable especially for any model ipod, HOWEVER, you can use it with any mp3 player, cd player, etc, etc, because of its AUX feature!
-Portable- Its tube design is small for the volume and quality of sound it produces, can add 8 D batteries for portable use (no AC)
I have brought this boombox to parties and houses with big cd changers or people with computer speakers and a sub and still blown them away.
Cons: I recommend buying the strap for it as it makes it MUCH easier to carry the box and the cords you can use with it.
-Short battery life, might be worth the money to buy 8 D batteries for one exciting day at the beach, but it won't last more than a few hours, especially with how much sound this thing puts out.
Buy it.
Customer Review: Causes my iPod to Freeze Summary: 2 Stars
I bought the Altec lansing inMotion as well because of all the good CNET reviews, and it was suppose to be a great value for the sound. Well, it's not such a great value if you can't use it because it's causing you're ipod to freeze all the time! Don't get me wrong, the sound and base are great (4 out of 5 stars) when it's working, but for quality and reliability I give this product a 1 out of 5. As the user said below, it's only great so long as you don't turn it up loud and/or play music with a lot of base. Worst of all this is a KNOWN issue with Altec, so it's poor design! Don't the people at Altec consider the fact that people that like a lot of base are going to play their music loud???? How can they tell us not to turn the volume up too loud or just refrain from playing music with a lot of base??? I would NOT recommend this product to people that enjoy bumping their music loud, lame! Then each and every time this happens, you have to wait until your ipod runs out of battery before it works again, so I typically have to wait until the next day before I can use it again. The freezing happens at least 1 out of every 2-3 times I use it.
