Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Firewire-Charging Portable Audio System for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Great Sound and Works with iPhone 3G Summary: 5 Stars
I got this as a gift and originally used it with my video iPod. It has a really great sound. A nice powerful base that doesn't overwhelm the treble. The overall sound is quite rich. It has both a radio and iPod mode. The remote has 4 preset buttons you can use with the built in radio. It has a telescoping antenna, but I haven't found the need to extend it. It would be nice if it had a mute button for when you are using the radio, but it's easy enough to turn off.
When I got my iPhone 3G, I decided to give it a try. While it doesn't charge the iPhone, it does play the songs with no problems and no interference. It always asks if you want to put the iPhone into airplane mode, but there is no need. When a call comes in, it automatically stops playing the current song and resumes when you hang up and press play. I have used it both with and without a bluetooth headset and it works both ways.
At work, I also have a 1G iPhone. If you have one of those, then don't get this radio. It, unfortunately, does have interference problems when it's anywhere near this radio.
Whether you have an iPod or an iPhone 3G, this is definitely a good value.
Customer Review: Altec Lansing does it again Summary: 4 Stars
After years of happy use from the excellent first version of the InMotion speakers I was finally seduced into upgrading to the im600. I guess what clinched it for me was the much bigger sound and inbuilt FM radio. The remote, rechargable battery and auto-off functions also help - since I was forever leaving my old one on by mistake..
It should be noted that it's a completely different product from the early versions, in being considerably bigger and heavier and therefore targeted somewhere inbetween travel and home portable use. That's fine for me since I can still choose to take the miniature version if I'm travelling really light. The great thing about the im600 is that it sounds good enough to also use around the home and garden.
It's a fantastic product and has been brilliantly thought out on every level. The design is superb and looks great with a black iPod, though I'm not sure would work so well with the white version.
The only small improvement I can think of is that it should be supplied with a multi-socket transformer such as some of the earlier generation InMotion speakers were.
Still, highly recommended!
Customer Review: Highly Recommend This Item! Summary: 5 Stars
I've yet to review something here on amazon but stumbled on this page accidentally during my travels today and figured I'd speak up. I love this speaker so much I'm considering another just for the convenience of having it replace my kitchen stereo. THE SOUND THIS THING PUTS OUT IS PHENOMENAL! If you haven't heard it, go to your local best buy or circuit city and give it a listen. I was just browsing the aisles one day and walked past it, tried it (without any interest in a portable speaker, mind you) and bought it on the spot. I don't know how they can make it go soooo loud and have such 3-dimensional bass... You will be blown away. It can literally replace your home stereo it sounds that crisp/loud, and I'm not even kidding. The battery life is ridiculously long, I've run it all day at full volume and it still sounded as good at the end of the day as it did in the morning. Built in radio, and the wireless remote attaches to the back of the unit so it's always there when you need it and not misplaced. Folds flat for tucking into your laptop bag for travel. Anyway, I've had mine a good 6 months now and those are my two cents...
Customer Review: Great speakers for the price and size Summary: 5 Stars
I was searching for a speaker system that had good sound and yet was portable (packing in a suitcase). Another feature that it needed to include was capability to play an IPOD and a Satellite radio. I read a lot of reviews on portable speakers. Most of the small speakers were reported as having a tinny sound. The larger speaker (Bose) had a great sound but it would have been too big to pack in a suitcase. Trying to get the best of both worlds, I chose the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600. I am not disappointed. So far I haven't found anything that is disagreeable. It has a great sound in the low to med/hi volume range especially with the sound enhancement option. Even at high volume it help up fairly well for such a small speaker. One day I came in from work and I heard music playing in the family room. I thought the Bose surround system was on but it was actually the iM600 playing music from the IPOD. If you are using an IPOD you can enhance the sound further by adjusting the setting for the particular genre on the IPOD. If you're looking for a small portable speaker system with a great sound for cheap this is the product.
Customer Review: A great value Summary: 4 Stars
I've been listening to my new iM600 for the past four hours, since its battery was fully charged and ready to go. Have listened to U2, Bebo & Cigala, Led Zeppelin and, now, the Chairman of the Board.
I can't think of a better value in electronics right now than this audio system. The mids are great, the highs clear. The bass is a tad muddled, but the unit weighs only two pounds. What do you expect? I'll probably buy Altec Lansing's BB2001 Powered Subwoofer to fill out the lower range, but I can't complain about what I have now.
I held off for months before buying an iPod audio system, waiting patiently for the price of the Bose SoundWave to come down. Well, it has, but I wasted my time. I listened to the Bose system at Best Buy and liked what I heard; I have no doubt it's worth the price. But the iM600 delivers more than what you pay for. That would include similar quality at about half the price, as well as an FM tuner and portability. (I refuse to shell out $400 for the portable SoundWave.)
What a great value. For the money I gave, I couldn't have asked for more.
