Customer Review: Great product with a few flaws

While I'm not a sound system expert, I can tell that the sound quality of this unit is excellent. Plus, you can play songs at high volumes before the music gets distorted. If you want more performance, then go for a more powerful, stationary system, not a portable unit.
Flaws:
1) Often, even when my iPod is fully mounted on the unit, the sound won't come on, although you can see on the iPod screen that the iPod is playing, unless you jiggle the iPod a bit.
2) The remote signal is incredibly weak; I have to hold the remote within a foot of the unit for it to work, and the remote must be focused on the sensor for it to work. I've found the remote to be useless, basically, and that's a disappointment as it was a selling point of the unit for me.
3) How do you find the rechargeable battery? I'd like to buy a spare battery for use at an all-day upcoming event, but NOWHERE on the unit do I find any indication of where the battery is located. In the user's manual at alteclansing.com, you're told to unscrew two screws that attach the battery compartment cover. Fine - but the two screws are not visible at all! Nor is there any indication on diagrams of the unit indicating where to find them.
If you want a unit with great sound, looks and portability, and are willing to live without a good remote function, this is the unit for you.

This is a great little stereo for the size. The portability is convenient, just throw it in your bag or back-pack and go. So far I've taken it to work (now my co-workers want their own) and to the beach. The sound quality is great, not like my surround sound at home, but I wasn't expecting that anyway. Some louder rock songs with heavy drums can distort a little (hissy) if the volume is up too high, but other than that it has been a real treat to listen to. Gets me and the kids up and dancing! I tend to be overly picky and I can honestly say that this exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for decent quality boom-box this should fit the bill.
My Gen 3 iPod Nano fits into the holding slot just fine. I was a little wary about this due to previous reviews, however have not experienced any problems with connectivity or having to make size adjustments. When you want to go it folds up nicely and closes securely. I have had no worries about possible damage in transit. It travels well. As others have mentioned the remote is tiny. You may want to consider putting a little piece of Velcro on it and the stereo to secure it into place if losing the remote is an issue.
My only complaint is that the battery wore out quicker than I thought. I took it on vacation and forgot the AC adapter, so couldn't use it as much as I wanted. Other than that, I love it!

My roommate bought this for me for Christmas and I honestly do not know how I listened to music without it. It makes everything so much easier. I now have the flexibility to listen to any song I want through my ipod. Ok so I had that ability before just using headphones but I'm coming from the world of home stereos and boom boxes that were bulky, you know the kind you dreaded having to move. This piece of perfect pleasure fits comfortably on a tiny shelf in the bathroom. Takes up little space on my kitchen island. Ideal in the living for weekend house cleaning marathons. The sound quality packs a punch. It's a clear / controlled / crisp sound that is especially noticeable with digital sound. Extra benefits are a remote control, A/C Adapter which when you leave your ipod attached to the base both the dock and ipod will re charge [time saver alert!!]. It also has an FM Radio Receiver built right in. I want everyone to know there is no problem with splurging. I actually talked myself out of buying one of these things which is why ultimately my roommate had to get it for me. I told myself well setup is going to be hard and it s probably going to require me to install some program on my computer it ll be too big for my tiny room I couldn't have been more wrong. It is none of those things and shaping out to be the best way to get through my new year.

Customer Review: Great sound, looks good and easy to carry

This unit exceeded my expectations. I previously had an original IM3 unit (must be over 3 years old now) and the new unit's sound is much, much better. The IM 600 is easy to handle, compact, light, and loud enough to enjoy within a room.
I did listen to the Bose® SoundDock® Portable digital music system - Gloss Black and it too sounded fantastic but the bulk of Bose, weight, lack of radio and hefty price ($399) could not be justified.
I found the fm radio worked perfectly without the antenna extended and it produced crystal clear sound.
At first, my remote did not skip to the next song on the ipod, but the unit was not properly docked - phew! we really didn't want to let it go.
I purchased this unit, for the first time, refurbished from Amazon Warehouse and it was delivered in excellent condition. Obviously, it had been opened and repackaged but there were no scratches and it was like new.
Altec Lansing are offering an extra year of warranty if you register within 30 days of purchase - this extends the warranty to 2 years. I feel better, saved $35 and will have no hesitation in buying like this again.
Like many of the satisfied reviewers you will not be disappointed.
Customer Review: Not for IPOD Touch second generation

I bought this on thanksgiving sale on Radioshack. After reading the reviews in Amazon, I was convinced eventhough it won't charge my second genreation ipod touch.
I recieved the item, and it was clearly said that it won't charge Touch second generation.
I called Customer service and they said it will only play the Ipod touch second generation and will not charge it. They said if you need charge capability you need to buy imotion max.
Also , I noticed that it is hard to plug in my Ipod touch as pins dosen't match.Everytime, I need to really work hard to plug in and out.Sometime I felt like I was going to break my Ipod Pins.
Two day's later, the actual issue started. It stopped playing in between. And since yesterday even the FM functionality stopped working.
The controls also were not responding. Remote worked for first two days.Once I programmed it, again that also stopped working. I went to the local radioshack store. They said they cannot take it back and I need to send it to thier warehouse. I going to send it back to warehouse. Will keep you all posted on how it goes.
I should agree, the music/sound is very good (Atleast for couple of days with my ipod touch 2gen),however, I strongly recommand to think twice before you buy this product if you have 2 gen IPOD Touch.
