Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM413 Portable Audio System for SansaCustomer Review: Sounds Good but Play and Track buttons do not work on Sansa Connect Summary: 4 Stars
I just got a brand new Altec Lansing iM413 inMotion Sansa dock for about 1/4 of the price it was listed for on Amazon which was so cheap I thought it no major loss if it was a let down.
The remote is about 3 inches tall 1 inch wide(about 1/2 the size of a credit card) and about 1/4 inch thick and has 12 buttons on it: 3 for FM presets, bass boost,Surround effect, Play/Pause,volume(2 buttons up and down), source(to select AUX Sansa or FM), Power(On/Off), and track/FM freq. The Bass Boost, Surround mode, and 3 Presets are ONLY on the remote.
The unit is about 6X6X10 inches and shaped like an L or beach chair. It sits very stable on a flat surface. It is not really heavy but it weighs more than I would think by the way it looks. It looks very nice, clean, and minimal. There are six buttons on the unit for power(On/Off),Volume+,Volume-,Source(Sansa,FM,AUX),Next/Forward/FM Freq Up,and Previous/Reverse/FM Freq Down. All of the buttons are duplicated on the remote.
On the back are the standard ear bud/headphone/computer speaker type stereo AUX input jack(just a female jack so you will need a male to male cable to connect something), 5 Volt DC input jack for the included wall wart adapter, and a 4 foot wire which is the FM Antenna. Battery compartment for 3 AA batteries is on bottom(If you do not want to use the DC adapter)
The Display on the front is just your standard LCD black on gray clock type display and it back lights blue when you push any button. The display has 6 dots; 3 on each side for indication of Surround Effect, Bass Effect, FM Stereo, Sansa, AUX, and FM
In FM mode it displays the FM Frequency and only the volume while your are changing volume. In AUX or Sansa mode it displays a number for the volume from 0 to 30. With the FM on a volume of 15 I can hear it 10 feat away very clear.
It comes with three different plastic supports to help hold the back of various Sansa Players.
Pros:
*Sound is pretty good especially for something this small. Much better sound that my computer speakers. I sounds better than I thought it would.
*It does play the Sansa Connect and allow you to change the volume from across the room with the remote.
*I assume the play and track buttons work for the other Sansa players it supports but I cannot verify this.
*Works great for computer speakers. Looks better, sounds better, and charges and plays your Sansa and FM Radio!
*FM Stereo works! (Although antenna could be better).
Cons:
*The Play/Pause and Next Fwd/Previous Rwd buttons DO NOT work on the Sansa Connect.
*A connector for an FM Antenna would be better than a 4 foot wire.
*It automatically turns your Sansa all the way up which is not really bad but it could have a little stronger preamp which would also be nice for the AUX input.
*It should have an override for your Sansa Screen dimming setting (Which saves battery when not in dock but makes it hard to see the screen when in).
*I am worried about the strength of the little plastic back support if/when I push the front of the Sansa.
*It would be nice if turning it off would turn off your Sansa.
If they lowered the price to what I paid and all the buttons worked on the Sansa Connect I would give it five stars.
