Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing iM207 Orbit-MP3 for iPod and MP3 Players

Customer Review: Great quality but very difficult to use
Summary: 3 Stars

I recently owned these speakers and I will have to say that they provide excellent sound quality not to mention even after dropping it a few times it still played as well as the day I bought it. Also, the battery life is amazing. Three AAA rechargable batteries would last through about 3 work days. I did have a few issues with it:

1) The on/off switch is a pain. It requires twisting the silver ring around the metal cover over the speaker. Wasn't easy to do the first time and is impossible to do with sweaty hands or wearing gloves. It actually became easier after I dropped it.

2) The battery cover constantly gets loose and falls off. If you move them around a lot every once in a while you'll pick up your speakers and the battery cover remains on the surface, not on the speakers. Not a huge pain, btu if you carry it around in your backpack expect to look around for them.

3) Finally the thin cord eventually frayed which led to its disuse. Where the rubber cord casing meets the plug eventually tore apart from wrapping it around and twisting (again from moving the speakers around a lot) which caused the metal wires within the rubber cord to fray which then caused the speakers to stop working altogether.

In the end, I would still recommend these speakers to anybody who doesn't plan on moving their speakers around a lot. It might even be beneficial to just leave the speakers permanently on so you don't have to fool around with that twisting on and off switch, just make sure to have battery replacements nearby.

Customer Review: Bad picture - misleading
Summary: 3 Stars

Very on the borderline misleading advertisement.
That picture here, outdoor doing B.B.Q.
Why misleading? The speaker is not loud enough if it is used
outdoor with an ipod or mp3, or my cell phone - Chocolate 3.

Sounds good and ok volume with the netbook.

Customer Review: Hard turn on & off, uses batteries
Summary: 1 Stars

Very hard to turn on and off. No switch for on and off you have to turn the top and hold the bottom and it is very very hard to do this. It also uses batteries which the sony passive speaker doesn't need. Look up passive speakers. The passive speakers you just plug in the mini jack and it works just as good. Don't buy this speaker.

Customer Review: A little speaker that wallops
Summary: 3 Stars

If you want to listen to your mp3 player without using earphones, but still wants it portable? Then this is not a bad solution. I got turned off at first as this is one of the most hyped products I heard about. When I saw it was sale for such an attractive value, I finally could not resist to plunged in.

Requires 3 "AAA" batteries.

Pros:
+ Small, light, and very portable
+ Loud enough for such a small speaker
+ Decent sound despite its miniature size
+ Attractive and simplistic design.
+ My other favorite portable speaker is a JBL on Tour. I have to provide a separate cable to connect with my player. With the IM207, it has an audio cable built-in. The cord wind to the speaker after use which is cool that I do not have to carry a separate cable.
+ Good battery life

Cons:
- Design flaw #1 : on/off switch is extremely difficult to turn. You need to twist the top part of the speaker but there is no grip at all. Very frustrating if your hands sweat. They can remedy this by making the side of the speaker just below the grill rubberized or grooved.
- Design flaw #2 : Battery compartment is difficult to open and close. You also need to twist the bottom but you may still need the point of a small knife to pry it open.
- Lacks base
- Mono
- No volume control
- Short cable

Customer Review: Good for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I haven't used it much since my dad took over ownership to use with his iPhone. The volume was decent though could be a bit louder. Also I wish it took only two AA batteries instead of three. Overall for the price I paid, it was worth it.
