Customer Review: Very impressive. Big sound from a small system

I was uncertain at first if the quality of sound from this small system would do the XM radio justice. I was very impressed after I hooked up the system and heard the quality sound radiate from the Altec system.
I decided on Altec due to its size (bigger Boomboxes are available but space hogs). Its stylish design fits nicely on my bookshelf and it's clean design goes well with any decor.
One thing purchasers need to be aware of is that the antenna needs to be placed close..really close, to a window to receive the satellite signal. I have'nt found anything negative to say about this system, well done Altec Lansing. I'm giving it 4 stars simply for the fact I would have liked to seen more user controls on the system.

This docking system works perfectly well with my Delphi Roady XT. My main complaints are
- there isn't a built-in antenna (which some can see as a plus because it allows you to rig up the antenna closer to the window) but to me, it's adding a LOT of clutter to have a wired antenna.
- there's no way to physically turn it off without unpluggin it. I cannot leave things "on" at work when I'm not here, and it's tedious to have to actually unplug the thing instead of flipping a switch. I don't see the benefit of this "ready" mode.
- The volume, in general, seems low to me. We placed the unit in one room and assumed we could crank it up to hear it in a connecting room, but the volume was way way too low.

I bought this product with some skepticism, especially after reading all the reviews. I really wanted a home unit for listening to XM radio but did not like the larger boombox type units. I've never taken the time to write a product review but I thought my opinion might be helpful. This unit works beautifully for me. It works at home perfectly in South facing windows, okay in a North facing window and really well in our living room, not near any windows. Once I discovered that success I took it to work and couldn't believe I can even get good reception in my North facing window in a large factory where cell phones often don't work. So if you're undecided, give this great little unit a try. I'm glad I did.Customer Review: Nice product

This is a great little docking/speaker system. I just bought 2, based on the reviews here, and so far, I am not disappointed at all. One I put in my home, on top of a dresser, by a window, facing east, but I directed the antenna towards the south, and I get perfect reception. The other I brought into my office. I am glad it comes with such a long antenna cord becuase I had to get the wire to go under my desk and up the corner of a wall to a window, but that took only about 5 minutes, and I was able to hide the wire nicely. Reception is great on this as well. I would have given this product the full 5 stars, except for the fact that the volume knob is not really to my liking. But the volume itself is great.Customer Review: Just what I needed!

This is an excellent little system and fits my needs to a T! It is attractive, easy to set up, and the cords have extra length so the location of the speaker system is not limited to the location of my window and outlet. The sound is of very good quality and ideally suited to my office space. I'm sure my neighbors appreciate this system's lack of booming bass and extreme volume. If you want your XM really loud, I recommend the boombox or connecting a home docking station to a good home stereo. And I finally have a use for the remote control that came with my Audiovox Express receiver. All in all, a terrific value!
