Customer Review: The little speaker that could
Summary: 4 Stars

Altec Lansing makes great speakers, and this little beauty is no exception. I used this on the beach at a party and it blew people away. I just used it in my kitchen hooked up to my Blackberry and playing Pandora radio. The sound quality is excellent, even though it's only one speaker. I'm picky when it comes to how my music sounds and I don't like tinny music with no depth. Not a problem with this. It plays "bigger" than it looks.

My only complaint is the same as everyone else: the on/off switch is a nightmare. I just found a solution but it took a while to pry the silver ring off and lube the inside. Hopefully I never have to do that again. The battery compartment is also a problem to open.

If you look beyond those headaches/design flaws and see/listen to what you are getting for just over $13, it won't matter. It works with everything that has a headphone jack: cell phones, mp3 players, laptops, etc., and it's small enough to take everywhere.

Customer Review: Good but a few flaws
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this on a fluke and loved using it with my iPod. I use it mainly as a speaker for the iPod so that my kids can watch videos while we travel. Overall though, I like this speaker as it is portable. It is pretty compact and can take a tumbling inside my luggage.

That said, there were a few downsides:

1. To turn the unit on and off, you rotate the metal bezel of the speaker casing. Being metal, it is slippery and I had to dampen my fingers/palm to operate the switch.

2. After a couple of years of use, the wire has finally frayed where it leads out of the plug. I guess I can replace this with one from Radio Shack but it probably could have been reinforced better. This is a common problem with all plugs though and I would have to admit that my iPod sometimes dangles from the speaker when it slips off the pillow so I probably added to its early failure.

Customer Review: A couple of design issues and QC
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased the Altec Lansing iM207 speaker for playing bird calls from my recorder in the field. I produces moderate sound levels before distorting, and has little discernible bass, so don't expect it to perform at your teen beach party. For birding, it would be OK, except for the following:
1. There is no way to attach a carrying strap (you could use a small cloth bag with a neck strap).
2. The speaker cable is only 8" long (stays out of the way, and doesn't tangle, but needs to be longer to reach my recorder).
3. The circular battery cover is made of cheesy thin plastic with tiny lock tabs, and is difficult to seat properly. The tabs seem likely to break off on repeated use.
4. The copy I received (and returned) required a HUGE amount of force to move the On/Off switch rings -- totally unserviceable. This may be a quality control issue -- it did not seem like normal performance.

Customer Review: ALRIGHT

So, this is a pretty cool little (not soo Little) gadget. The sound quality is OK.. not the best, and it is not good for the beach neither. It's okay to use while relaxing with some friends. WHen the sound starts to act all Weird.. ITS NOT THE SPEAKER, just make sure to change all three batteries, I thought I had blown the speaker. Don't turn up your IPOD to the fullest cause it WILL distort the sound of it.

COOL thing:
It comes with a little extra plug-in thingy that allows you to plug it into your cell phone (if you're cell phone has the plugin thingy)

Anyways... I would NOt really recommend it... I ended up buying this other one that is pretty cool too... And wayyyyyyy SMALLER... Portable Expanding Capsule Speaker ...

Take care... And I know my review was probably not too helpful, But I always read these things and I just thought I'd say something...

Customer Review: Incredible!
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing is so tiny, you wouldn't expect it to pack the punch it does. I have another set of fairly large speakers that take two C batteries each (ouch!) and die really fast, and don't get that loud. This itty bitty thing, on the other hand, has incredible sound, lasts forever, and is remarkably durable. Whenever I have it playing in my dorm room, people stop by and try to find where the good music is coming from--then are shocked to see how tiny the speaker is! It's great for tucking into a laptop case when you travel with a computer as a portable speaker system with amazing sound, or hooking up to an iPod to share your music (or listen to it all over the house, like I do.) It is hard at first to turn on and off with the twist feature, but I've gotten good at it. I've had it nearly a year now, and it's still going strong. I love this thing more than any big speakers I've ever bought!
