Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing Music SpeakerCustomer Review: great with vocals, solo piano with my iPhone Summary: 5 Stars
the sound is very loud, even in a 20'x16' room with 10' ceilings.
so, use it in a conference room at work or at starbucks with your iPhone or iPod.
there will be zero bass for rap songs, but vocals, country, and even solo piano can sound wonderful with the im207. i played beethoven's 5th symphony 1st and 3rd movements recently and the sound was quite accurate, just do not turn the volume of the iPhone pass 8/10. für elise sounded wonderful with the tiny speaker and even moonlight sonata was enjoyable. so, if you don't mind buying fresh aaa batteries every 2-3 weeks, get this tiny speaker. it will sound way better than the internal iPhone speaker, for starters!
i actually prefer this over my apple hi-fi as it has an excitingly bright sound and the hi-fi can be heavy in the mids. for the road, the im207 cannot be beat. it is way better than those that sits on top of iPods and much smaller than the smallest panel speakers.
it seems tough too as i have already dropped it 3 times...

Customer Review: Ok, not good, nor great Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this little speaker to take on trips with me, so I could relax in a hotel room with my music and a good book. But what I found, the first instant I plugged it into my new ipod nano, was get extremely loud static-y feed back!
I thought perhaps this was a fluke, but then I tried it again and was surprised I got some music, but mostly static. I figured out that if you move the plug-in around, the speaker does not like it. But if you plug your music device in and leave it sit, without moving the device or the speaker at all, the music will play fine. In fact, once I got music to play on the speaker, the quality was very nice.
I do not recommend this for placing in your car where your device or the speaker could move. The static is not volume sensitive, it will be loud even if you have the volume turned down on your device.
Perhaps I just got a faulty device, but, in any case. I would find a place to test out this speaker before purchasing, or just find another brand altogether.
Customer Review: Perfect - High quality at a very low cost! Summary: 5 Stars
So there are a few things about this I really like.
The sound quality is great for such an inexpensive piece of hardware.
I was looking at so many different devices like this (from clock radio designs to all kinds of other wacky contraptions).
This was the only one that did, just what I wanted, AND NOTHING ELSE - What a concept!
All I wanted was to have my iPhone louder when sitting in the Jacuzzi that is it.
No, clock radio (already own one).
No remote speaker connected wirelessly (total overkill).
No 2.1 surround system speakers (who wants to lug all that around).
Just a simple amplified speaker so I can hear my favorite audio books (or music, the speaker is high enough quality for that).
This product speaks to a design paradigm that I had thought was dead... "Do one thing, do it well."
It would be great, if there were more things built this well.
There were even 3 AAA batteries in the package! Perfect!
Customer Review: Great Performance - Terrible Design - A Radical Solution Summary: 4 Stars
There is simply nothing that can touch the sound of this speaker for the money. Since iPhones don't work w/Bluetooth stereo and don't work in the car w/out one an FM transmitter, this is a great solution for listening to an iPhone in the car.
Here is the workaround for the two problems alluded to in other reviews. The on-off swtich is simply the worst I have ever seen and battery replacement isn't much better. Maybe Altec's engineers designed the unit as an exercise program to help people develop strong hands.
I removed the back cover (permanently), set the on/off switch in the on position and flipped one of the batteries so its backwards and withdraws power from the unit. When I want to turn it on, I put the battery in the correct way. It's obviously also easy to change the batteries when there is no cover.
The designers at Altec Lansing must have been stoned when they engineered this product. They were so taken w/the music they forgot everything else.
Customer Review: It works. Summary: 5 Stars
I have just ordered 8 more of these, which will bring the total to about 34. Great gift. As far as I know, none of them have failed. The sound quality is amazing. (Might be my ears have grown less discriminating. I have decided my Dynaco A-25's are spectacular.) It does not need a case, the grill is strong. Yes, it is hard to turn off. You have to apply enough force to get sufficient friction to turn it, but not so much that it won't slip. But that is why it is so inexpensive. I have found that if I forget to turn it off, somehow it still does not drain the batteries. AA's would have been a better choice. I also have the Phillips 1500s, and I would have thought the stereo separation they give you would beat the single speaker Altec Lansing. I don't use them. I like the short cord, but you won't get good FM reception. The cord acts as the antenna. You could add an extension cord for that use. I've bought 34 of these because I like things that work well. This does.
