Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing Music SpeakerCustomer Review: I just ordered another one from IBDElectronics for $12.98 Summary: 5 Stars
I already own the M237 and in a very short time I've found it to be a valuable addition to my computer bag. I travel frequently and I use it with my IPOD Classic and my laptop. It's way better than internal laptop speakers and the amplifier is good enough for my hotel rooms. I found the M207 for only $12.98 (includes shipping) through Amazon at IBD...At this price everyone should own another one of these handy gadgets. Had a competition today between the M237 and the M207. The 37 has a bit more base probably because it's designed in a little can. But the 07 has a brighter midrange that enhances vocals. Both are just fine for what I use them for. Bottom line is that this speaker is just too good to pass up at this price. Forget the switch problems. I'm over 50 and have no problem turning it on and off. It's a tough little package and should survive in my travel back. Overall it's actually smaller in height than the M237 so it will fit in tighter spaces. I'm getting another one so listen to music on my bicycle when I'm training. Includes batteries and an adapter cable for those of you who listen to music on your cell phone.
Customer Review: Completely amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I have never written a review about an item before, but this time I felt like I HAD to.When I first received this little speaker, I wasn't too impressed. It looked too small to be able to produce the type of sound output that I was looking for. But that opinion changed as soon as I plugged it in. I first tried it in my MP3 player, and was blown away. I couldn't believe the volume level and clarity that came out of it. Plus the bass response was WAY more punchy than I could have ever expected. Next, I tried it in my computer, and was even more impressed. It doesn't have a volume control on it, but it doesn't need one at all. This little speaker will easily blast the volume from whatever you have plugged into it. It's very small, and lightweight, which makes it easy to carry anywhere you go. But the best thing about it is the sound. It puts out just as much audio quality as speakers that are much larger and more expensive. You really won't believe the bass response that comes out of this thing. If you are looking for a portable speaker for your MP3 player or computer to use at work or on the go, definitely buy this thing.
Customer Review: The word "disappointing" comes to mind Summary: 1 Stars
Simply put, this speaker is not anywhere near worth the $30 (or so) it usually goes for. As many other reviewers have pointed out, the on/off switch mechanism is a massive ergonomics fail -- clearly whoever designed the thing was not considering that segment of the population which is not endowed with huge hands and the brute strength of one who spends his or her days twisting rebar into quaint modernist sculptures of giraffes and butterflies.
Now if it were JUST the on-off switch that was problematic, but the sound quality was great, my overall rating could have been at least one star higher, possibly two. But alas, after the first two or three uses, I started hearing a lot of crackling whenever I turned up the audio volume to even moderate levels (e.g., when trying to play a song from my ipod in the car). Moreover, the thing sucks batteries like there's no tomorrow (and the on-off switch mechanism exacerbates this), and the battery door is very poorly secured. Essentially, for something of this price and this relatively large physical size (it is about the diameter of a coffee mug), I expected better.
Customer Review: Accessorize your iPod touch Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice inexpensive speaker, I purchased it so that I could watch video podcasts on the iPod touch without wearing headphones. It works well with the iPod touch. I wouldn't want to listen to my music with this speaker, it sounds a little "tin-y".
I like that the speaker travels well and works with 3 batteries. The cord is a little short, but it travels better with the short cord. If the short cord is a real problem for you you can use the sony earbud headphone extender cord Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black),
I already had the headphones, and found that the extender part of the headphones works well to make the cord longer. If I didn't already own the headphones, or wasn't in the market for headphones it probably wouldn't make financial sense to buy this for just the cord extender.
Hopefully this is able to help someone on the fence about the speaker.
I like the speaker, it travels easily, in fact I bought a second one.
Customer Review: Off/On Completely Stuck Summary: 1 Stars
I read the helpful reviews about how to turn this speaker on and off, and managed it a couple of times, until it stuck completely. I gave it to a friend who may have been able to use it--I don't know.
I thought about buying another speaker, and then I figured something out. Unlike many people, what I needed was not a speaker to share the sound with other people. What I needed was a speaker that would let me hear the telephone ring and other surrounding sounds, while listening to the sound device. This includes when I'm walking around the house and when I'm walking outdoors
I made a discovery that works great for me--and avoids me having to wire up, battery-power, and carry a speaker around. If the sound device has a mono switch, I set it on mono, and insert only one earpiece into one of my ears. That way I can hear surrounding sounds with the other.
There are some devices that do not have a mono setting, and then you might wind up missing part of the sound if you only used one earpiece. But a whole lot of devices do have this. It works GREAT for me.
