Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Aiptek A-HD 720P 8MP CMOS High Definition Camcorder (Silver)Customer Review: Toy Summary: 2 Stars
This video camera is fun for recording videos. It is light and the flip out screen is nice but when i plugged it into my computer I was very disappointed. For some reason i was not able to edit my videos with Sony Vegas and I could not use movie maker because the files were recorded in quick time not as a wmv. this my just be my video camera or it may be Vegas' fault, but either way this camera is no use to me. I gave it 2 stars because it was cheap, light, and fun to use. It would make a very nice gift to a child, but if they would prefer to edit their videos and post them to you tube, be warned that you cannot use Vegas. This was a very fun toy, but as a video camera, it is useless. Another problem is the battery life. The battery on my camera has repeatably been charged fully and then lasted for less then thirty seconds while other times, the camera has lasted extremely long on a short charge. The short battery life and inability to edit, has made this camcorder useless to anyone who takes video recording seriously, but once again, is a very fun toy.
Customer Review: beautiful camara Summary: 5 Stars
This camara is easy to use, light, yet large enough to be comfotable in the most hands.
The still picture resolution is actually 8Mp when you choose the option. This upscaling is done electronically.
The only negative is that it is fairly delicate, but the wrist strap should prevent breakage by dropping.
The lens cap can be tied to the same part of the camara as the wrist strap, which prevents losing the lens cap.
One 8gb SD card provides more storage space for video, pictures, & recording, than the battary can allow, before recharging.
Owned less than one week, but if the device is as wonderful as I think it is, I will get one for my wife after we take our vacation and take lots of pictures. Very easy to operate. Not a lot of confusing buttons requiring function memorization. If you did not push the right button, you just push it again to go back where you were & try the other button. All media is easy to erase, which may be the most important feature of all.
Customer Review: So far so good. Very glad I made this purchase. Summary: 4 Stars
This camera has impressed me. The picture quality is great, the battery life is terrific, and it has been very easy to use. Its small size can be a challenge for my big hands and some times I have trouble locating the record button quickly, but more practice should help on both counts. The fact that I can slip it in my pocket or backpack and take it with me everywhere makes it more useful and convenient than my larger 8mm camera. It also fits on a standard camera tripod. Saving to an SD card (with an internal memory as backup) makes it a better fit for me that the other digital camcorders that only save to internal memory.
Complaints? Very few. I wish I realized that the .mov file format does not work with Windows Moviemaker but I'm going to try Quicktime Pro to see if that will allow me to edit the files. Still, the .mov files are easily uploaded to websites such as Youtube.
I'm headed to Brazil next week, so that will definitely give the camera a workout!
Customer Review: I like it, but it has it's shortcomings Summary: 3 Stars
It's probably more of a toy or a hobbyist camera, rather than consumer grade camera, and for one major reason - there is no image stabilitzation, so your hand needs to be *really* steady, or you need to use a tripod. Other that that, no complaints. It won't give you razor sharp high definition picture because of the real time compression to the SD card, but it's decent. It has three picture modes: Hi-def, DVD and Web. Most of the time I use DVD quality setting. The picture in this mode is way better than from VCR or even my older digital 8mm Sharp camcorder. It also takes decent photographs, comparable to cheap point-and-shoot cameras. It needs good lightning, but I have successfully filmed inside with not so great lightning conditions and the picture came out better than I expected. Overall, it exceeded my expectations. I like it a lot and I think it has a great value for the price I paid for it (~$150). I give it only three starts because of lack of image stabilization.
Customer Review: Great Tourist Vidcam Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great little camera for putting in the pocket as a tourist. It takes clear and non-jumpy, full-frame HD videos at broadcast speed.
Photos are clear, although the lens is not the best. The 4x digital zoom is as good as any, but at full zoom the image is a little fuzzy. The shutter response time is slow, but if you want action shots use the video instead.
Each video scene is stored on an SD chip as a separate movie, in .mov format with H.264 and AAC compression.
The camera interfaces with computers via USB with fast and easy downloads using any number of downloading software, at least one of which is built-in to both Mac OSX and Windows.
This will not replace my other video cameras with optical zoom and good lenses, nor will it replace my other digital still cameras.
But it is levels above cell phone quality and storage. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well.
