Customer Review: Good Value for the Money, Nice Little Phone
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price, which included Free SuperSaver Shipping, one would have a hard time finding a better deal. It is a solid little phone (did not quite expect the "heft" to it that it has), appears to be well-put-together, rings fine and has a good sound quality (not tinny or with interference as one might expect for a phone for this price ~ I've had "cheap" phones before and "sound quality" is just not something I would expect to find at this price ~ under $13). The white color and sleek modern styling go well with our post-modern decor.

We needed an inexpensive corded phone with no added features (the 13-Number Memoy feature is something we will never use) as we live in an area which occasionally experiences untility outages due to severe weather. The phone service usually stays intact during these periods, however anything requiring electric is dead until the power is restored. Cell phone coverage here is also very sporadic and hard to come by, so a corded phone was essential to our well-being.

This phone fit the bill perfectly for our needs. The only thing I didn't particularly care for was that it comes with a "favorite phone numbers" paper label stuck on the base (under the handset). There is no plastic covering for this and I can see where it will eventually get "dirty-looking" or unsightly with regular cleaning.

I would have preferred receiving the label separately as something I had the option (or not) of placing there myself. That is no big deal and did not affect my overall rating as I will just remove it eventually (carefully, as the base cannot be immersed, however have found the blue D**n dishwashing liquid on a coarse cloth is perfect for removing sticky substances such as labels, etc.).

I suppose if someone wished to use this label to write their "favorite numbers" on, they could place transparent packing tape over it so it would not get dirty and/or wear with regular cleaning. But again, for the money, even this inveterate bargain-hunter could not find a better deal.

I must say I am a little amazed at some of the reviews on here which portray a sort of "shock" that this is made in China. It is very hard to find products NOT made there these days and current and past administrations are to blame for this ~ NOT Amazon (although I do wish Amazon would place the Country of Origin on ALL of their product descriptions). I would have been "shocked" if it WASN'T made in China or some other overseas location ~ although my family does try to search out American-made products (however they are increasingly harder to find).

Amazon itself, as they have been with every order I have placed with them, was wonderful and had it on my doorstep within four days of ordering (along with two other items in the order). It was packed well in its own box and packed by Amazon Fulfillment quite adequately.

I love sitting at home in my pajamas searching for great deals on Amazon and not having to run from store to store looking (and not having the benefit also of others' reviews) and then having my chosen item(s) on my doorstep within a few days. That benefit alone is, well, ------> Price-less!

Customer Review: Junk AT&T has given up
Summary: 1 Stars

ATT always had great telephones. I still have a 530 that works fine. Perhaps outsourcing (to the Philippines), or all the money spent on athletic advertising has taken away from any monies better spent on continuing the tradition of making great telephones. I got a 210 because I needed a basic telephone that was inexpensive and would be dependable (an ATT). Instead I got garbage. One by one features would not work. I needed a longer cord so it went to a hardware store (where the owner use to work for Verizon) and he said the telephone was defective. The cord would not work. Radio Shack said the same thing. I called the service number and got the outsource who asked me to describe a couple of the issues. I was then told it was defective and to send it back. I also said I needed an extension cord and could I get one from them? They said anyone would work. I said I did not feel I should have to spend several dollars to send a $13 telephone back (received through Amazon free shipping and I should risk receiving another defective unit?). They said they could do nothing else. I asked for a supervisor and was given a complaint email address [...] to write to about it and instead of a written reply I get a telephone call and who do you think calls me? The same outsource office. They want me to contact them so they can work something out. I email them that they can certainly send me a prepaid label with a new and working telephone and I would return the defective one in the box the new one comes in. I had not heard from them in months so I called them before the warranty ran out to ask why did you have to speak with me and not respond to my emails. I was told we prefer to speak with our customers personally about their options. OK. What are they? I was told there were two: I could pack up the telephone and all its original contents to send back to them, or I could fill out a form received the next day authorizing a new telephone would be sent to me WITHOUT mailing in the defective one, IF I paid a pre charged $14.99 (the telephone was $12.99) fee. This allows (are they kidding?) me to continue using (I told them it was sitting in its box) the telephone until the replacement arrived. I asked she email me these `options' for my record and she did. Garbage telephone and sad to say, garbage customer support (games and ignoring the consumer does not make for good customer support, or goodwill). Keep spending money on advertising for product that isn't worth the marketing.

Customer Review: a very good phone--especially at this price !!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently bought this phone after several two more expensive models failed; his telephone by AT&T and Lucent works better than the other phones I bought when I had to get a new phone for my home. The construction of this telephone reflects great engineering; and it's very, very reliable for a price that's very inexpensive these days for a phone. Yes, it is corded; but when all you really need is a basic phone this really does the job. Besides, the fact that this is corded means you'll never misplace the cordless handset!

The phone has back lit buttons which are desirable for those of us who are elderly or in any way sight impaired. The buttons could be brighter but the back lighting does improve upon no lighting. The phone offers well known features including "last number redial," too. The phone has a mute feature, adjustable ringer volume and more. These functions never disappoint me. It also has a small knob that lets you switch between touch tone and pulse (rotary) dialing. I use touch tone dialing as most people do. I am particularly impressed that a phone in this price range even has a twelve number memory feature for speed dialing. Cool! However, as another reviewer correctly notes, when you program the phone to remember frequently dialed numbers, you need to actually dial the number--so hang up fast if you don't intend to speak with that person at just that moment! I don't care for that so I will take off one star for this.

If you want to take a nap without the phone ringing, just turn the ringer off by using the knob at the base of the phone. That's an incredibly useful feature!

I highly recommend this telephone for people who merely want a basic, inexpensive phone that still has a few "frills" to like including memory speed dialing and mute. The extra features give you all you truly need to make this a well constructed telephone at a rather inexpensive price. Sure, the back lighting for the buttons on the phone could be brighter; but overall this is still quite a good phone for the price. The phone takes up little space and it can even be wall mounted to completely save counter space in a kitchen or any other room.

Customer Review: AT&T Versus, um, AT&T
Summary: 4 Stars

I just received this White Trimline 210 phone from Amazon. It looks/works great, and I expect I will be as satisfied as most of the other reviewers.

While I still have the packaging, I wanted to clear up some confusion I had prior to purchase about the clever marketing relationship between AT&T (the big one) and AT&T (a separate entity/manufacturer called Advanced American Telephone). Here's the legalese from the side of the box:

"Made in China.

"(C) 2007 Advanced American Telephones. All rights reserved. AT&T and the AT&T logo are trademarks and the graphic design of this package is a trademark of AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P. a/b/a AT&T Intellectual Property, licensed to Advanced American Telephones. The graphic design of this package is (C) AT&T Intellectual Property, 2006. All rights reserved. TRIMLINE (R) is a registered trademark of Advanced American Telephones."

It's fairly clear that a lot of legal and marketing thought has gone into trying to make this look like an authentic "AT&T phone" when it is definitely something less than that. It is...."an AT&T BRANDED (and/or Licensed) phone." For example, warranty issues are not handled by AT&T in any way, but by, um, AT&T -- if you catch my drift.

Personally, I don't have a problem with any of the above in this case because the phone seems to be a good value and quality -- as the reviews suggested. But it certainly does not have the weight and heft and durability that we remember from, say, Bell Products or the (way) old "Phone Company" days -- part of the heritage and identity that the "branding" of this phone is trying to leverage. For today's purposes, however, it's close enough. The look and feel of this phone is solid. I hope it works and lasts for a while.

Customer Review: Good phone if it's actually working
Summary: 2 Stars

I have two. I was pleased with the first one for a year and a half, but now the ringer works only when it is in the mood to. I have tried reprogramming it and double-checked that the ringer is switched on. Some days it just won't ring. The second one, I picked up a few weeks ago. It would be great if that one would allow me to dial the number nine, especially since the one number I want to be able to dial quickly from any phone is 9-1-1. I am not happy. Also, sometimes when it's on touchtone, it will only dial via pulse, so when I tried to do telephone banking, I had to run to another phone. No amount of toggling back and forth will get it to switch over to touchtone.

I was suspicious about the quality of this phone when I noticed the tricky marketing ploy: the phone has the AT&T logo - from the old American Telephone & Telegraph from which we could expect better quality, but AT & T has licensed its logo out to "Advanced American Telephones." These "American" telephones are made in China likely under the sorts of working conditions that would explain the shoddiness. I miss the days of quality manufacturing.

BTW, when I went to request a return number from DynaDirect (the company that ships this product), I was not pleased that the form that needed to be filled out was not a secure form. It asked for way too much personal info not to be an https site. I can't return the phone since after a week I threw out the box only to then discover that I had not yet dialed a number that contained a nine in it.
