Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of AT&T 1855 Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System and SpeakerphoneCustomer Review: works great for grandparents Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this phone for my grandparents after looking at many others on Amazon. This got the best reviews, and the rating was well deserved. It has been easy for my grandparents to use. The caller ID and answering machine have been intuitive. The speaker phone works from across the kitchen. They like the size of the buttons and say that the display is easy enough to read. It was wall-mountable, like they wanted. We were worried because one comment said that it was difficult to hold between your chin and your shoulder, but my grandma has been doing it without any trouble. Absolutely no problems. It has been very easy to use.
Customer Review: Only one problem Summary: 4 Stars
Overall, this is a very good phone with many solid features. My only complaint is that there is no way to adjust the volume for the message alert. Because of the poor location of the phone jack in my kitchen, I have to put this phone in the master bedroom upstairs. Unlike my last AT&T phone, which allowed me to adjust the volume of the message alert, this one has a very quiet beep, and the volume can't be adjusted.
If you plan to put this phone in an out-of-the-way location, you may want to consider a different phone. Otherwise, you will have to visually check the phone to see if you have messages.
Customer Review: Decent Phone Summary: 4 Stars
It's a good set of features at a good price. I wanted speakerphone, caller id, and answering machine. Has all 3. If I want to get picky it would be: the machine's computerized voice is not a great voice. The power light above the play button is a little big I don't see why the power on light has to be so big. For some reason those things bugged me a little from giving it a perfect review. On a plus side having a mute button with speakerphone is nice. The unit is not too big on a desk smaller than some other units. The number buttons are nice feel, they are good size but not too big, and flat. So overall good value.
Customer Review: A very good Phone/ Answering Machine - with wires. Summary: 4 Stars
I have 14 rooms and at least 14 phones. Many are wireless, hence battery powered, and hence always going dead for lack of charging. This phone has a wired handset, and a small "Brick" power supply that plugs into the wall. It never goes dead (unless the power goes out). It records very clear messages, has caller ID, a speaker phone, and 8 (I think) volume levels. It may not be 2.4 gigahertz, but it is a great phone, of the type that is disappearing. I bought 2 more, as spares. I would give it 5 stars except for the manual. This phone has so many options it needs a book with an index, not a few sheets of paper.
Customer Review: Keep looking Summary: 1 Stars
Actually, this is about a predecessor model 1818 which was bad to begin with (poor tonal quality); the speaker then began fading in and out both for phone calls and for message replay, and finally, the buttons stopped working entirely --- all within the span of six years of fairly limited home use. When I compare this machine with the durability of my old Panasonic tape machine, which lasted over 15 years, I rate the AT&T product as wholly unacceptable. Even when new, the tone quality of the message recorder was so bad, it was often difficult to decode messages and, more importantly, call-back numbers.
