Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of AT&T 1855 Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System and SpeakerphoneCustomer Review: Call screening Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this phone with the hope that it would be possible to erase incoming messages without first listening to them. My purpose for this is to get rid of messages recorded when I screen calls and don't pick up on telemarketers. It adds insult to injury to have to listen again to an unwanted message before I can erase it. This phone let me down, it doesn't allow deleting a message until you start playing it back. To add to the insult, the time and date tag is stuck in front of each message and you have to listen through that and into the recorded message before you can hit the delete key. To be fair, I have been unsuccessful in finding any digital recording phone that allows instant delete without "opening" a message. Otherwise, the phone is simple and works well.
Customer Review: Answer to a prayer Summary: 5 Stars
because of the great price for a mutiple task machine. The voice mail feature I previously had from SBC/AT&T interferred with the automatic answer on my fax machine, and having to put my fax machine in manual mode in order to receive faxes was very inconvenient when away from home. Now with my new AT & T 1855 I have all the conveniences of voice mail (at a better price) without the hassle of having to be notified (via e-mail or phone) ahead of time of receipt of a fax and then having to be right there in order to receive it. In the initial set-up of the HP ALL-In-One fax machine I own, the manual states that if you have voice-mail rather than an answer machine, the fax machine must be placed in manual mode because it will not receive faxes automatically.
Customer Review: so so Summary: 3 Stars
This is a simple home answering machine. It is made by a company other than AT&T but has paid to use the AT&T logo.
Some glaring defects are the lack of a back lit display and the dismal audio quality on the speaker output.
There is only one outgoing message available. My old AT&T model had three choices, one of which was played only to a user specified calling number. This was good for telling pesky telemarketers to go away.
There is no battery backup so you have to reset the clock after each power interruption.
You have to set the clock on the hour because there is no way to enter the minutes. It assumes you set the clock on the hour and sets the minutes to zero.
Customer Review: Good Phone. Simple. Lots of Options. Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this phone for Caller ID and a digital answering machine. It has lots of other features too. I paid $20 for it. Overall, it's a slick, simple phone. Great looking and easy to use.
My favorite feature is it's Caller ID Announce. When activated and a call comes in, a voice announces the number calling. I also like default outgoing message "Please leave a message" in a computer voice. The ringer options are only OK. Most of them are a little high pitched and annoying. Also, the cord to the handset was super short. I immediately purchased a longer cord. This phone has many bells and whistles, but they are all easy to set-up and change with the touch of a button.
Customer Review: phone better as a wall-mounted than desk phone. Summary: 3 Stars
If you plan to mount this phone, then you'll not have a problem with the fact that the phone cord out-weighs the phone unit. The original cord is too short, so you'll want to get a longer one, but the phone is so light that as the cord slips to the ground, the phone goes with it. I've had no complaints from callers when using the speaker portion and have walked about 4-6ft from phone at times, which says a lot for the sensitivity of the mic. Besides the light-weight aspect, I'd also would like the caller ID illuminated - when it's night and I just have the computer monitor for lighting, the reading on the phone is difficult to see.
