Customer Review: Good, solid, no-nonsense phone
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this phone for over two years and it's served me very well. If you're looking for a phone with a million different "features" that you're unlikely to ever need or use, this one's not for you. But if you want a non-nonsense set that does everything you'd expect a phone and an answering machine to do, and well, then you've got a winner.

What I like about it:

(a) doesn't suffer from interference because it's corded;
(b) phone works even when there's a power outage (answering machine and call display don't, but those are unimportant in an emergency);
(c) fairly simple to operate, although the interface could be a little more intuitive (just this morning I had CL1 blinking on the display and have no idea what it means, and nothing I did changed the phone back to normal, even though everything works just fine, memory is intact, etc);
(d) despite less-than-stellar interface design, set has a very good ergonomic design;
(e) sound quality is far superior to any cordless phone I've ever used; and
(f) the set has an answering machine, a mute button and a speakerphone, which are the only features not present in the most basic phones that I actually use from time to time.

Can't think of any serious cons. Another reviewer complained the phone doesn't have a back light for the buttons or the display, but this has never been a problem for me -- I guess I only ever use the phone when there's at least a light on somewhere.

Customer Review: Very disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

What is most important to me in a telephone is sound quality. Unfortunately, while we have features galore these days, phone companies universally use cheap amplification and lousy speakers and microphones. This phone is no exception, though I would say it is worse than most. Especially if you use the medium or loud setting, the sound has hiss from cheap amplification. I carefully read the customer reviews here hoping to get some idea of the sound quality of this phone and several people commented that it is good. Don't believe it. Many might find it acceptable but it is certainly not 'good'. Also, as several people have commented the spiral cord connecting the receiver to the body of the phone is ridiculously short. I've never encountered such a short phone cord. I tried to hook up a cord from another phone but it won't work as this cord has an extra wire and consequently a different phone jack from phones which do not have the caller idea in the receiver itself. Lastly, as others have commented the body of the phone is thicker than other slimline type phones making it somewhat less convenient to grab with one hand to move it around. I am looking for a new phone. If anyone can suggest one which has GOOD sound quality, please post here. Thank you.

Customer Review: It's fine!
Summary: 3 Stars

One part of this phone is pretty cool: I really like being able to sit on my fat butt and wait for the caller ID voice to tell me who is calling. But sometimes I'm sitting nearby so I fumble through the dark, lift the entire phone up in the air, squint my eyes, and eventually figure out who's calling, only in time for the caller ID announcement to start. The dumb thing is that once the guy starts announcing the number, he won't stop until he says the whole thing. If you pick up during the announcement, you won't be able to talk to whoever is on the other end until the guy finishes announcing the caller's phone number. Pretty much anytime someone calls I pick up in time for the announcement to start, and I have to sit and wait for him to finish before I can talk (so I'm worried that the person is going to hang up!).

Also, again, no backlighting for any of the keys or displays, and the phone is really easy to push off the hook. If you put any pressure on the cord, the phone will lift from the cradle.

Otherwise it's totally fine. I just wanted a phone with caller ID that didn't require batteries. Check! Next time I buy a phone I'll make sure its keypad and display are backlit.

Customer Review: Minimal OK
Summary: 2 Stars

I's say it's just OK. For the price, $30. But you can probably do better. Main problem is it communicates with you only by voice (I mean settings,etc.). That's mighty peculiar, since it has it's keyboard and enough display space to take input far more conveniently.
To make or change or reset something after a power loss, the voice goes through every setting in a fixed sequence, so you have to listen to all the ones you don't care about and want to leave alone. Then when you do want to change something, like the minutes on the clock, you have to press a key repeatedly to get increments one minute at a time, instead of just keying in a number.
There are two 3-digit codes (Remote Access, Priority Caller) it has to ask you about one digit at a time. Again you increment that digit one press at a time: for the first digit, then for the second digit, and so on.
What takes the cake though, is the strangest time format probably in the world: You set it to this, for instance: Sunday, 10:43 AM, 2007. The day of the week and the year! No Month or Date! There ought to be a quirky prize for that.

Customer Review: worked well for me for years
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this phone for probably 5 years...maybe more. I use it in my home office and am on the phone most of the day. I need a new phone now as the flash and the LCD stopped working.

The answering machine was great, but since I use it in my home office, I opted for the phone company's voice mail and stopped using the answering machine component. Nor do I use the speed dial. The hold and the mute still work. The speakerphone is excellent and takes just the press of the button. I never had any problems with sticking buttons like some of the other reviews have mentioned about some AT & T models.

Ringer control volume has worked fine - and still does. It goes very loud and very soft. Theonly issue i have is not really with the phone - I have to stand up to see who's calling (when the LCD worked that is) and I'm digging the Uniden tilt LCD that's backlit. But it has no flash and I use that button constantly.

This was a hearty phone that was used hard and had a long life.
