I had been using this with my Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Standard & Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras, but found it didn't really help block any stray light and ended up getting the Canon ES71II Lens Hood for EF 50mm f/1.4 SLR Lens, even though it's much more expensive.
However, my friend has this same lens hood with a Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Wide Angle Lens for Canon SLR Cameras and it seems to be just enough. So I think the moral is, if you have a wider-angle lens, this will work fine for you.
