Customer Review: Thinking of Getting This? Some Things to Know First...

The Good:
I replaced my original notebook's internal SATA HDD and put it in this enclosure to use as an external USB drive. Overall, I am happy with the product. It does what it says it does.
The main body is a sedate, yet still attractive black metal. The removable ends are actually a chrome-looking plastic. Nothing too fancy, and yet it does look sleek next to my laptop. Plus, because of its slim design, I can easily add it to my notebook case and take it with me.
The Not-so-Good:
I needed to purchase a "Precision" Phillips Screwdriver, one that is specifically designed for electronics, in order to remove the uber-tiny screws during installation - or else you won't get them out and possibly strip the heads trying to. Can we say, "Last minute, unplanned treck to Radio Shack?" :D
The enclosure itself, although not having the glossy black finish that seems prevalent in electronics nowadays, still shows fingerprints and smudges.
In keeping with the small design footprint, the blue LED light that appears and flashes when the HDD is being accessed is, for all intents and purposes, located on the back of the enclosure (where you plug the USB cable). So, you don't really see it. Unless you rotate the unit around. Not that it matters much I guess. :)
I have never seen a more basic manual since the one I got with my Acer laptop. So here's some additional and much-needed info for Windoze OS users:
After you plug in the USB, the computer should recognize the drive. If it doesn't show up in Explorer, right-click My Computer, select Manage, then Disk Management. Scroll down to the USB hard drive and right click it to get a dialogue window and choose to create a new drive letter. Once that's done you can format the drive and it will be ready to go.
BTW - I stuck 4 vinyl bumpers, one in each corner to the underside of the enclosure. This keeps it from sliding around on my desk. You can find them at most hardware stores - "Sta-Put" inexpensive brand.
