Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Acomdata Tango USB 2.0/eSATA 2.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive Enclosure TNGXXXUSE-BLU (Blue)

Customer Review: Great Product worth every penny
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this external hard drive a few months ago and it works great. It is quiet and cool when it is plugged in. I've never had a problem with it and I have dropped it a few times on accident. The set up is a breeze, you just place the internal hard drive in, put the screws in to keep it in place and close it up.

The only complaint that I have about this unit is the instruction manual when it came to formatting the internal hard drive. I had taken the hard drive out of my PS3 and wanted to make it a storage unit. Thankfully the solution was posted online and it was easy to format it.

I was reading other reviews and someone was complaining about this weird clicking noise it can make. That comes from using the incorrect USB cable. When plugging in the unit you have to use the USB cable it came with or it will not work properly. Also make sure the correct USB connector is plugged in. One is a primary and other is a secondary. Plugging in both USBs gives the unit more power, but I am not sure why anyone would need to do this.

If you are thinking about buying one go for it. It's a great product and works well especially when you follow directions.

Customer Review: Visually stunning, easy to use but not robust enough
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm quite pleased with this product, visually it's very well designed but I feel it's a little bit on the weak side. I wouldn't go ahead and carry it around in my back pocket or any other pocket, it feels that it could get easily dented or damaged. The instructions on the manual were not helpful at all: it indicated to take out the screws (check!), remove the back lid (check!) and insert the HD... huh!? What about removing the OTHER lid at the front of the case??

I didn't go ahead and remove it just like that because I thought I was going against the instructions. Rather, I went on YouTube and did a search on this product. One video showed how to properly install a HD and there I confirmed my theory of removing the front lid. After that installation was a breeze and now my old HD sits in this case while my new one is blasting away in my MB Pro.

I would definitely recommend this product but would warn about the weakish feel of this product. If you intend to use this case at home or at your office while carrying around in a box or some protective bag then I think you will be more than pleased with this product.

Customer Review: Nice enclosure; eSATA works as advertised.
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, the enclosure works; that's always a bonus ;) I replaced my stock 80 GB 7200 RPM drive in my Dell E6400 and threw it into this enclosure. Worked fine with just one USB connector. When I got my eSATA cable (see my reviews), it connected right up and it worked perfectly with my Vista Business x64 install on my Dell E6400; no settings changes, no configuration, just worked. The eSATA cable fit nice and snugly into the connector and the connection feels pretty secure.

I verified that it was using eSATA using DiskBench and got transfer rates around 55-60MB/s for a 1 GB file. Solid. Dramatically improved my virtual machine load and save times.

Secondly, as a bonus, it's a very attractive case. It's relatively slim in profile (barely larger than the disk itself). The ends are plastic, but the core is anodized aluminum. The only way this could be better is if it came with some rubber feet or some rubber end caps or something to keep it from sliding around.

I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for an eSATA capable enclosure.

Customer Review: Perfect HDD enclosure
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is at a very affordable price, even after paying shipping. The quality is not what you might expect for paying only $14.99 (In a good way) The enclosure itself is made of a real piece of aluminum, and it has plastic front and rear covers that actually fit seamlessly to the aluminum, unlike other, more expensive enclosures. The quality of this enclosure should win an award, because it is amazingly good. Another "feature" of this enclosure that I like is the ability to act as a heatsink for the hard drive inside, because of it being made of real metal. According to the SMART status of my 80GB Seagate LD25 OEM hard drive, the temperature stays within 85°F to 90°F, which is good for the longevity of this already old hard drive. My other enclosure is made of plastic, and it was $35 at best buy a year back. I am using this enclosure to replace the crappy more expensive one that I already had. I also like having the eSATA for faster write speeds (up to 135 MB/sec on my machine).

Customer Review: A nice case
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an attractive and easy to use case. On my Vista system I was able to format the drive after it was installed (something I was not able to do with my NexStar SX enclosure) which is a huge benefit. To get into the case you have to undo a couple of very small screws (which is a minor pain) then snap the drive in, screw it onto the board with the included screws and reassemble. The case has a nice finish that doesn't show fingerprints.

The included USB cable has two plugs on the computer end. The second one is in case your USB port doesn't put out enough power to drive the device. If that is the case, you plug the second plug into a second USB port. I didn't have that problem with my IBM ThinkPad T60p. It runs just fine from one port. The case and formatted disk install with absolutely no problems on my system.

All in all, I am very pleased. It is certainly a step up from the cases costing $9.98 that you get on eB**!
