I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. It is the best cordless phone system I have ever bought. I've had it now for 2 years and the expansion is incredible, 12 phones!??! Who needs 12 phones??? Well, I guess when you have three kids and live all around your house you need more than 5, huh... Anyway, these are by far some of the best, farthest range, clearest, cordless phones I believe I have ever used in my life. Bought them at Sam's for a little over $100 bucks. So, for $20/piece, didn't think that was a bad deal, and I wasn't wrong. My kids have tossed them around, no scratches, no bumps or cracks and I've only lost one to whatever reason (won't turn on). They are easily found on e-bay and I have bought a few more since then to add in the house.
A few missing features coming from Uniden (a company that I do cherish, think scanners). My old cordless phones had a feature or two that I would come to expect would be "standard" for others, but I guess not. The ability to individually customize each phone's location. For example, on a uniden phone, I could mark "living room" on the phone and could "page" that phone from any other location in the house, not with these phones. The work around with ATT is numbers. Thus, you are forced to number your phones, such as, living room is 2, kitchen is 1, parents room is 4 and so on, not bad, just not ideal coming from a top-notch tech company, you'd expect more. So, on the back of each of my phones is a home made sticker with each room and an associated number so we can transfer calls and use the system as an intercom for the kids, etc. As I said, a hillbilly work around. The speaker phone is very clear and loud (you do not have to yell) making handsfree work a pleasure instead of a chore. There is no auto-redial, a nice feature, especially for business users, thus 4.5 stars.
A rather nice feature of this system is customized rings. I know who is calling without getting up or looking at the phone. The indicator is clear, caller ID is great, call back features work flawlessly, the phone its self is sleek, looks great, the blue lights are so futuristic and just add to the decor of any room. I just cannot say enough about the aesthetics of the system itself. AT&T engineering should be lauded for the artistic characteristics of the phone itself, no bulk here at all, it is in that asian car market grouping...if you get my drift here, e.g. no worn buttons, nothing to fall off, no cracks, splits, bad paint, tiny base footprint, etc...the design team needs a raise! <-- I'm not BS'ing.
If I were in the market to buy new, I'd consider this set and look at a possible upgrade to the bluetooth version. If you talk long, the sets do get a tad warm and sweaty, so bluetooth is an option, although, AT&T does make a nifty device for these sets which I have read is also the bomb similar to bluetooth. I plan to buy my wife the headset as she does use the house phone for business quite often. Options, options. The expansion, aesthetics and quality makes this a SOLID purchase.
