Customer Review: A Simple & Reliable Telephone
Summary: 5 Stars

The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.

The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great. I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up. The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".

Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.

A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)

Customer Review: Great phone for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

THIS is the Trimline phone that I remember from past years! I had bought an AT&T "Trimline" phone that was really poor - it didn't have the features that I expected, and remembered. I bought one of these in white color for my wife, and then found that it was so good that I ordered the black model for myself.

This phone has a backlit screen (excellent for night-time calls), powered by the phone line - no batteries required. The light intensity isn't very high, but is readable in the dark. I found the quick dial use to be fine, although I was a bit surprised that one needs to program in the emergency number (isn't 911 standard?), but maybe some people want to call their relatives in an emergency or something. I have mine wall mounted, although the unit works either wall or desk.

The phone is handsome, and the features (handset and ringer volume, quick dial, etc) work well.

The only drawback is that the handset is fairly large. I am 6' tall with big hands, and it fits me fine, but if you are purchasing for a smaller hand you might need a different model.

Customer Review: great basic phone
Summary: 5 Stars

I had no trouble programming long-distance numbers, and even my calling card number, into the phone (yes, the calling card number required two of the pre-sets, one for the phone number and one for the PIN, with a manual pause in between).

When I made an error during the programming phase, I had the same experience as the person who couldn't get it to program. The key is to press (1) program/mute (2) memory (3) the preset assignment (4) the telephone number (5) program/mute.

My intuition kept trying to override and press program/mute or memory in between the preset assignment and the telephone number, which caused the phone to both dial, and then not have retained the programming.

Hopefully if the person with the programming trouble tries once more, it will work.

My ONLY complaint about the phone is that I can't turn the volume quieter than the "normal" setting, the opposite of the phone it's replacing.

Customer Review: Works Even When The Power Is Out - Highly Recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

The AT&T Trimeline is a very basic corded phone that works when the power goes out. We bought three of these (one for our house, shop, and my mother's house) to use mostly as backup for when our various cordless phones become unusable in during power outages (more frequent than I like in our area).

We have these connected to line splitters (Belkin RJ11 Plug/2-RJ11 Jack Modular T Adapter) and they work just fine. These also have physical switches to adjust the ringer volume and phone volume which, although limited, does give us some control. It is also handy that the keypad is "backlit" and draws power directly from the phone line, allowing you to see the numbers in the dark.

While these phones do have the ability to store numbers and even speed-dial, we have not set them up to do it.

Highly Recommended!
