This old fashioned machine will save you a ton of money on the "answering services" offered by most providers. This thing is so easy to set up, I did it without even reading the directions. There is a number announce feature that is wonderful, as I purchased this for my elderly mother...and then for myself. It's nice to hear the number announced. If you're busy, you can decide whether or not to "run" to the phone. Even if this thing only lasts for a year or two (first time I've had one of these particular models) it will be well worth the price. I bought an extra for a backup.
Customer Review: fine for the price Summary: 3 Stars
I like that I can set number-of-rings for more than 3. That was really getting me steamed with my old AT&T. The voice quality on this is OK. Not great, but you can usually hear the words well enough. For the price it is a perfectly serviceable machine. Unfortunately there aren't many choices left if you want a stand-alone machine.
Oddity: When the machine announces its time stamp, it includes the day of the week, the time...and the year. Um, folks, especially if you are not going to include the day of the month, knowing the year isn't going to be particularly helpful.
Customer Review: Almost perfect Summary: 5 Stars
The volume is more than adequate, sound quality is good, setup is easy.
CONS: No backup battery. After power loss, if you had a custom outgoing message, it's a hassle. If you used the generic outgoing message, setup takes only a few minutes.
PROS: EVERYTHING ELSE. Setup is easy and intuitive; you don't even need to read any instructions, it's that simple! And the # of rings before answering is set by software, not a limited switch, so you can set it precisely as you desire. I especially like the voice announce of the incoming caller's phone number.
Customer Review: Lasted 9 months Summary: 1 Stars
This unit worked well for 9 months, then stopped and brought down all of my wired phone service with it. When I lost phone service throughout the house I called Verizon for help, and was told to disconnect all wired units from the wall, then re-plug one in at a time, to see which unit was causing the disruption in service. Sure enough, it turned out to be this answering machine. I re-tested several times, and each time it caused me to lose all wired service throughout the house. It's going into the trash now. Nine months doesn't seem a very good track record to me.
Customer Review: AT&T1739 Corded Digital Answering Machine Summary: 5 Stars
Right out of the box, plugged in and ready to go. Biggest plus was the quality of sound and ability to raise it for those who are hard of hearing. No plastic sound while on high volume. Far more quality than cost. Considering buying another one as a spare because good machines are hard to find and all those I have tried that are built in the phone are very poor sound quality and the louder you turn them the more distortion.AT&T 1739 - Corded Digital Answering System
