Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of AT&T 1739 Corded Digital Answering System, WhiteCustomer Review: A good simple machine Summary: 5 Stars
It is a simple answering machine for home use that effectively does the job I needed to be done. It is easy to use. It sounds good. It takes up a smaller space than my older machine. You can remotely check your messages I agree that it is weird that it announces the time, day of the week and year but not the month or day of the month. It has some features that are only available if you pay for extra services from AT&T like caller ID. If you have caller ID, which I do not, it is supposed to reset the time automatically after a power failure. This would be nice but I can do without it. If you need a answering machine for home use, this is good.
Customer Review: AT&T 1739 Answering Machine Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this machine for my mother, and so far she really likes it. The only drawbacks that I see are:
1. It should have a phone-line cord jack rather than a hard-wired cord at the back of the unit. There may be cases where the hard-wired phone-line cord isn't long enough to reach an available phone outlet jack. That would require purchasing an extension cable.
2. When setting up the announcement, there is an initial "ramp up" time for the audio volume, which makes the first syllable or two of the first word in the announcement very low in volume.
For the money, this is a very cost-effective unit.
Customer Review: Good old fashioned answering machine! Summary: 4 Stars
When I say old fashioned, I mean, this is a great device from the 90's that nobody uses anymore because of voice mail. Since we purchased this handy device, I can once again screen calls, listen to messages without going through a tree of menus, or remember a passcode to enter the voice mail system. I say, bring back your old and tired answering machines! Regress, my friends, regress!
This machine in particular is very easy to use, thanks to an all digital recording system. It is fairly easy to setup but does leave something to be desired as far as sound quality. Good for the price though and small footprint.
Customer Review: Easy, Cheap. Efficient Summary: 5 Stars
As with another reviewer, I got fed up with fancy voice-mail systems (requiring a monthly fee). So I ditched v-m and got this machine. It's small, it's reliable, and it sounds fine. It doesn't interfere with our phone which announces the caller, so now I can ignore "Number Not Provided" calls, get my messages without fuss, and quit paying monthly fees. The machine was very easy to set up. All I needed was a little gizmo that converts the one-jack connection at the wall into a 2-jack connection. Maybe the machine won't last a year (I've had for only two months), but if so, I'll buy a new one and still be in money!
Customer Review: Excellent Device Summary: 5 Stars
I am so glad that these answering machines are still made. The price is absolutely terrific (~$17). It works perfectly and does the job. I ordered 2 more so that when (or if) they fail, I will have replacements. I have used Verizon answering service and it was unstable and erratic and undependable. I am saving oodles of dollars per year and am thoroughly satisfied with this unit as a telephone answering device. I wish I could "save" the messages for posterity cause I can't find a way to download the messages so I have to record them. Otherwise, this is a flexible and good basic featured machine.
