Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apricorn Drivewire Universal HDD Adapter USB To 2.5IN & 3.5IN Sata & Pata

Customer Review: It works.
Summary: 5 Stars

Works as it is supposed to. Can't really add more operational experience than what's already been offered, but I would like to advise new owners to please read the manual.

Gems worth repeating:
1. Don't hook up more than one drive at a time to the adapter.
2. Use the power cord. For PATA (IDE) drives, the Molex plug goes direct to the drive. For SATA drives, plug the Molex end into the Apricorn adapter.
3. Set the jumper on PATA drives to "Master"
3. Carefully attach drive to Apricorn adapter.. don't force things, be sure pins and spaces are lined up correctly.

Oh... I LOVE the extremely short power cord! Of course I usually use one of my longer cords in my tech case for the Apricorn, but this "shorty" 5-15 3-prong to C13 is unique and will no doubt come in handy.

Customer Review: Best Tool When Upgrading to a Larger Hard Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased a 500GB 2.5in SATA drive from Amazon. The 80GB hard drive in my laptop was almost full from music and photos. My only problem was that I didn't want to spend the time installing the O/S and other applications. Plus my laptop is a Dell and the existing drive is partitioned into 4 different drives with some being hidden. I just wanted the drive structure and files cloned to the new drive. After a lot of research, I decided to go with the DriveWire. It's the best $34 you can spend. It took approx 1 hour for the EZ GIG II software to clone the 80GB drive. All partitions including Dell's MediaDirect were cloned. After the cloning was finished and I swapped out the drives, my laptop booted to the desktop without any errors. It's really the best way to go when it comes to upgrading your hard drive.

Customer Review: Apricorn DriveWire with EZ Gig II
Summary: 5 Stars

This product really saved me from a lot of pain. I had a 1 Tb drive getting ready to fail and I wanted to copy it while I could. I tried Norton Ghost and other disk utilities to clone the drive...they all failed. Remembering that I had this device to pull data off of a failed laptop drive earlier in the year, I pulled it out, read the docs and used it to clone my drive. It was fast, painless, and completely error free when complete. I was able to pull the old drive out, put the new cloned drive in, and it booted and performed like you would want it to. Perfect copy. Thanks very much to the Apricorn team for providing an excellent product that works as advertised, at an excellent (bargain) price, compared to the expensive options out there that failed.

Customer Review: HDD adapter
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent product. It comes with a power supply that either gets plugged into the hard drive itself or the adapter, depending on which hard drive you are accessing. (this is not shown in any of the pictures) The adapter will not work unless the drive jumpers are set for single "master" drive. Then it works flawlessly. (will not work on cable or slave settings.) Excellent product. I have not used the CD that comes with it, and maybe that is where the instructions are, but except for the fact that the drive has to be set to master, the rest is obvious. When connected, the drive appears in explorer (on the computer it is connected to) just like any other USB drive. Love it, especially if I get my ten dollar rebate.

Customer Review: Doesen't Work on Windows seven
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to install new hard drives into different types of hard drives ( sata - Pata) it works great on all my windows xp computers however it won't work on windows 7 64 bit systems. I called the manufacturer and he told me what I already knew that it won't work on Windows 7. So he gave me an site to down load the proper software, then I had to burn the Iso image onto a cd. That took a whole lot of time and after all that work it still doesnt work on windows 7. I'm really mad that when I bought it nowhere could I find information about compatibility. Now I have to call the manufacturer this afternoon and see if he sent the right update. Who needs the hassle, my time is worth something too.
