Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of APC BE750G Power Saving Battery Back-UPSCustomer Review: APC BE750G Summary: 3 Stars
This a decent unit for reliable standard power usage with a computer or other devices. It has plenty of plugs to accomodate most PC's cable modem, router, CPU, monitor, and printer so when the power goes out you have plenty of time to shut down safely. It has two major drawbacks, the location of the power button and the inability to use the software provided with it. The power button is on the top of the unit which can easily be accidentally pressed by someones foot, child, dog or cat. My cats have regularly stepped on it shutting everything down. I ended up taping a card over it in order to prevent accidental shut downs, especially while doing anything important like those dungeons in World of Warcraft. As for the PowerChute software you can't use it for automated options and you must rely on the Windows Backup features to have any type automated functionalty. I consider these design flaws. The power button should be remedied by putting the button on the side of the unit or at least recessing it so it can't be so easily pressed, and the software that comes with it should work with it.

Customer Review: Good, but watch out! Summary: 4 Stars
As soon as i got the ups, i read the installation directions and plugged my computer, monitor and cordless phone into the battery backup and my wireless router, dsl modem and subwoofer into the surge protection plugs. I then plugged the ups into the wall outlet and a whaling sound came from the ups and wouldnt stop. I even unplugged the ups from the wall outlet and the noise continued. After a couple of minutes, it stopped suddenly and everything seemed ok as the green light indicator turned on. Just when i thought everything was ok, i noticed that my wireless router wasnt working. Everything else was on but the router. Come to find out that the ups shorted out my router. I tried to get the ups insurance policy to replace the router, but apc said because my router wasnt damaged by a surge that they wouldnt replace it.I was disappointed when they told me that. Other than that, the ups works fine and the software monitors the battery time of the ups and you can even run tests to see if the ups is in working condition. Just remember to plug in devices one at a time with the ups plugged into the wall.
Customer Review: Compact APC Back up Power Supply Summary: 4 Stars
This compact size back up power supply has all of the needed features. In addition to providing power for the computer and monitor, there is one more outlet to allow power for a router or other low power device. The other 6 outlets act as a surge protector or switch. In effect, this one device serves as the power strip where every part of the computer system can be plugged in, so there is one click access to a shutdown and which only needs one outlet in the home. It is fairly heavy and comes with auto-shut down software to sense a power failure and allow the computer system to do a normal shutdown. I do not know how long the back up power actually lasts, but it is definitely long enough to finish working and shut down normally. One big advantage is that this unit also regulates power. My area suffers from unexpected one second off/on interruptions -- not actually a power shutdown, but a second or two is long enough to kill a computer. This is no no longer a problem. Worth the money. I see no need to buy a big tower style unit.
Customer Review: Not as advertised, at least with Power Mac G5 Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this particular model because it was highly rated by Macworld and on Amazon. Additionally, it was advertised to pay for itself by have "green" outlets that automatically power off peripheral devices when the computer goes to sleep. This feature does not work on my computer. The computer goes to sleep, powers off the connected devices, but then immediately wakes up again. So I contacted APC customer service. The customer service experience was awful. They could offer no advice for a work-around or any other option, or if it was may fairly ancient computer. After this experience, I skimmed the many reviews on Amazon and found I was not the only person with this problem, so I hope someone can post a solution.
Fortunately this feature can be defeated so I decided to keep it to avoid the cost and hassle of a return. In summary, if the green feature is a major reason for your purchasing this unit, I would look elsewhere or be sure the feature will work on you machine.
Customer Review: Fault was with Operator Summary: 4 Stars
In mid Jan I purchased An ES-750VA UPS system. I have had great results with the 500VA UPS and wanted to add robust capability. When we received the new UPS I down loaded the patch for the software and prepared (charged) the system. After eight hours of use I noticed that the printer wouldn't function and while fiddling with the printer the computer turned itself off. I got a little concerned and asked for help. After submitting my request, APC technicians responded and posed some questions and tests that I hadn't thought to perform. I quickly realized after a through read of the operating manual that I had overlooked the possibility of master control turning off components not being used. I would suggest to users to remember this system has new features that older versions don't and when encountering issues to go back to the paper and read carefully. I have changed my review from before and have a system that works well for me. Sometimes an old lesson are too easy to forget.
