Customer Review: Setup was fairly easy with my iMac

I don't know much about computers or battery back-ups. I bought this one because the price seemed reasonable. I like the fact that it can be controlled by my mac, and it has a little icon on my desktop that tells me how much of the battery-charge is available for use in a power failure. My only complaint is that it was a little frustrating to connect the internal battery when I received it. The battery is unconnected when shipped and must be connected/plugged-in by the user in order to activate the unit. Here's the problem; the tiny battery-cable was a little too short and made it very difficult to maneuver the battery back into its tight compartment once I connected the battery.Customer Review: Use it at Home and at Office. After suffereing through computer problems resulting from surges, I got this battery back up surge suppressor unit. I bought three of them to service all my computers at the office and home. The cost of computer problems far exceeds the cost of this unit not to mention the data loss.
This product was suggested to me by a tech guy that has helped me. I've seen it work and it does power down correctly as advertised. You have to remember which outlets are connected to the battery and which ones are merely surge suppressor protected.
The cheap small surge suppressors are considered inadequate for computers anyway. They're good for things like lights.

This unit was shipped very fast from the vendor and arrived at my door step in 5 days after I placed the order.
I connected the battery and it was ready to be used. After two hours charging, I unplugged the power from the outlet and all electronics continue to operate without any problem.
I used UPS to protect my networked HDD and a DSL router. I did not use the USB connection between the distance between my router and my laptop.
My only issue is that I don't know how to project the time this UPS would last at this power load during the outage. Like other reviewer had suggested, a indicator at 5% power or a display would have been nice.

I bought the APC Back-UPS ES 8 Outlet 550VA 120V unit for my home office shortly after losing unsaved work due to a power outage in my neighborhood.
Installation of the provided software was easy, and I find the software to be useful in terms of monitoring status during power outages.
The setup was straight forward, requiring only that the wire from the provided battery to be attached to the rest of the unit.
Since my initial purchase I have lost power twice without losing any data due the the power back up.
I recommend this unit to anybody who works from a small home office, or frequently uses a computer at home.

We have great fluctuations in our power due to the length of underground run. Turning on the Dryer, Disposal, or making coffee in the morning with two machines and the microwave would cause the DSL to go out, and sometimes shut down the computer. I bought the APC device and that problem no longer occurs. We hear frequent clicks from it as it does the job, it is surprising how often it kicks in, like, everytime the refrigerator turns on.
But, no more DSL or computer shut offs, A great device, when you toss in that incase of a power outage you don't lose the computer and the data you were working with, it is darn cheap insurance.
