Customer Review: Does what it is supposed to
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this item a few months now and we lost power recently (April storms...) . It was great because I was in the middle of scanning/uploading pictures for my mother-in-law's 60th birthday. The first time, the power dropped for a couple of seconds. No problem. Then it went out completely. I just finished the picture I was working on and finished an email I was working on. DSL was still working. Then I just powered everything down. Great !!!!!

PROS:

- Works like it is supposed to and simple. Even my Grandma (were she alive) could hook this thing up.

CONS:

- I hooked up the Cable TV coax and it created a buzzing sound in my speakers. So I'm not using the coax hookup.
- Very short power cord, maybe 3 feet? I had to use an extension cord for an extra couple of feet, gives it a cheap look. Not a big deal, but keeps it from getting the 5 stars it should deserve.

Customer Review: APC BR1500LCD Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I experienced a power outage within the first month after purchasing the unit. The power went off and on a couple times before going off completely for around 3 hours. It kept power to my DSL modem and router (my desktop computer was off) and also my satellite receiver and TV. It could have powered everything except my TV for over 4 hours. With the TV on it was a little over a half hour. We turned the TV on periodically to check the progress of a baseball game.

The thing I like best is it kept surges from entering my equipment when the power went off and back on a couple times before going off completely.

It certainly has the power to allow normal shutdown of my computer without loss of data if the occasion arises.

I only wish I had been using it over the past few years, since we have had many power outages and surges in my neighborhood. I believe those caused my A/V receiver to fail.

Customer Review: Broken out of the box
Summary: 1 Stars

Didn't work right out of the box. Unit would always run on battery & not recognize being plugged into the wall. Asian tech support woman(polite, but very hard to understand) was worthless and ran me through the exact same troubleshooting guide that came in the package. Had to argue with them for an hour in order to get them to send me a new unit and, surprise, surprise, they send me a refurbished unit! So I bought a new item from Amazon and three days later had an old, previously broken one. Guess I should have sent my broken one back to Amazon instead of the company. Oh, but the original box did have the print-out from the tech who tested the battery before it left their warehouse. Shame they didn't test the battery when it was in the actual unit. Based on this experience, and the poor tech support, I would not buy again. There are other name brands out there to try.

Customer Review: Lovin' this back-up!
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in a rural area of eastern Colorado where snow, thunderstorms and wind can knock our power out from seconds to hours on a pretty regular basis. As a photographer and graphic designer I spend a lot of time on my 24" iMac. The power outages are not only hard on the computer and external drives but my nerves as well. The power always seems to go out when I've forgotten to save a file that I've been working on for hours. I'm sure that I have over sized for my system with this back-up but it's pretty cheap insurance. I have another APC this size on my corn-burner stove as well. I'm sure that they were not designed or recommended for that, but it seems to work fine. I will be getting another soon for the T.V. and satellite system. My wife will be getting one for her computer at work as well.

If you haven't gathered, we love our APC.

Customer Review: Great capacity and features
Summary: 5 Stars

The capacity is superb. I'm at 34% and I've got a desktop (Quad Core/8GB Ram/2 monitors), NETGEAR ReadyNAS Pro 6-Bay 1.5TB (3 x 500GB), and NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch plugged into it.

The provided USB cord worked automatically with the ReadyNAS, so when the power goes out it'll shut down safely. An added bonus the ReadyNAS will also email me if the APC Back-UPS has any problems (which is how I found out I needed to replace my old one).

The front panel display gives you lots of nerdy information. While most of it you'll never need to know, it's really nice for the once in a blue moon you do.
